U.N. inspectors investigating Iran’s nuclear program angrily complained to the Bush administration and to a Republican congressman yesterday about a recent House committee report on Iran’s capabilities, calling parts of the document “outrageous and dishonest” and offering evidence to refute its central claims.

Officials of the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency said in a letter that the report contained some “erroneous, misleading and unsubstantiated statements.” The letter, signed by a senior director at the agency, was addressed to Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.), chairman of the House intelligence committee, which issued the report. A copy was hand-delivered to Gregory L. Schulte, the U.S. ambassador to the IAEA in Vienna.

Texas high court to consider reinstating DeLay conspiracy charges
by Buck

How could any true-blooded American stand behind and defend this piece-of-crap human being? It’s been proven, he’s an unethical crook. Nothing about this man has ever been on the up and up. I’m not clairvoyant but can’t you tell just by looking into his face that this man is soulless? This could be Charles Manson and he’d still get ample backing and support. What is wrong with you people?!

DeLayJoe Shaulis at 12:08 PM ET

[JURIST] Texas’ highest court for criminal cases announced Wednesday that it will consider whether to reinstate conspiracy charges against former US Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX). The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals granted a request by Travis County Prosecutor Ronnie Earle, although it did not set a date for oral arguments. The charges of conspiracy to violate election law and conspiracy to commit money laundering were dismissed last December after the trial court found that the campaign finance law DeLay allegedly broke was not enacted until after DeLay committed the acts for which he was indicted. In April, the Texas Third Court of Appeals affirmed that decision but refused to dismiss money laundering charges. In dismissing the conspiracy charges, the Third Court of Appeals noted that although Earle’s arguments for reinstatement were strong, they conflicted with precedents established by the Court of Criminal Appeals. No trial date has been set for the money laundering charges.

DeLay and two other Republicans are accused of transferring $190,000 in corporate money directly to the Republican National Committee, which then donated the same amount to local Texas campaigns. DeLay and the other suspects have denied raising or spending money illegally. After he was indicted, DeLay stepped down as House majority leader and later resigned from Congress. DeLay withdrew his name from the November ballot after several courts ruled that the Texas Republican Party could not name a new candidate to take his place. The Houston Chronicle has more.

Muslim’s win in Minn. seen as step for community
by Buck

Andrea Stone, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON - The Minnesota Democrat who is likely to become the first Muslim elected to Congress says he wants to “promote the idea that America needs friends around the world, not more enemies.” (emphasis mine)

Keith Ellison, an African-American state legislator from Minneapolis, won Tuesday’s Democratic primary to replace Rep. Martin Olav Sabo. The son of Norwegian immigrants is retiring after 28 years in the House of Representatives. Ellison beat three other Democrats, including Sabo’s former chief of staff and ex-party chairman, Mike Erlandson.

TANKED
by QuestionGirl

Is anybody else thinking what I’m thinking? The wizbangs that think in those tanks up on the beltway need to get back in and come up with a new one. Their last 2 offerings have been dismal failures.

Neo-liberalism brought us globalization. Marketed as a way to elevate the standard of living for the people of un/under developed nations, it was really just a way of manipulating their domestic economies through the IMF and the World Bank and assuring that MNCs have favorable operating conditions in which to expiloit the labor market and natural resources. One needs to look. no further than Malaysia (a “non-player”) to see the failure of that foriegn policy, if in fact the intention was to raise the poor folks out of poverty. Oh, and on a personal note, would Thomas Friedman please stick Malaysia up his globally round ass. Was that rude?

Ok, then the neo-cons crawled out of their tank with the PNAC. Well lets see….where do I start…..I think the current state of affairs speaks volumes to this. The incompetent people implimenting and executing the plan have only proven to emphasize its flaws. At the current failure rate, the PNAC won’t last a decade, let alone a century.

Time for you wizbangs to crawl back into your tank and keep your thoughts to yourself until you come up with something better than your last 2 offerings. They aren’t working out to well.

Former Texas Gov. Ann Richards dies
by Buck

AUSTIN, Texas - Two years before she was elected governor of Texas, Ann Richards electrified the 1988 Democratic National Convention with a keynote speech in which she joked that the Republican presidential nominee, George H.W. Bush, had been “born with a silver foot in his mouth.”

A longtime champion of women and minorities in government who was serving at the time as Texas state treasurer, she won cheers when she reminded delegates that Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, “only backwards and in high heels.”

Richards died Wednesday at 73 after a battle with esophageal cancer.
