Jose Feliciano is a classically trained guitarist, he has a perfect-pitch singing voice, and he adds a soulful richness to his performances that was, back in the day, not often enough recognized in the industry or widely by fans.
Here (1988) he shows his Motown self (from the album produced by Berry Gordy in 1981)…
I Want To Be Where You Are
Here, vocal complexity…Life Is That Way
Here he plays Malaguena
Here he rocks with Carlos and Ricky…
C’mon Baby Light My Fire
His new release and more about him and his career is here.

Keith Olbermann nails the Republican party on their “advertising of terrorism” in his special commentary tonight. Wow……

Tonight, a special comment on the advertising of terrorism - the commercial you have already seen.
It is a distillation of everything this administration and the party in power have tried to do these last five years and six weeks.
It is from the Republican National Committee;
It shows images of Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri;
It offers quotes from them-all as a clock ticks ominously in the background.
It concludes with what Zawahiri may or may not have said to a Pakistani journalist as long ago as 2001: His dubious claim that he had purchased “suitcase bombs.”
The quotation is followed (by sheer coincidence no doubt) by an image of a massive explosion.
“These are the stakes,” appears on the screen, quoting exactly from Lyndon Johnson’s infamous nuclear scare commercial from 1964.

(WMR) WMR’s intrepid sources in Florida report on some details about GOP gubernatorial candidate and current Attorney General Charlie Crist, or should we say Charlie Christodoulos.
Crist’s father, Charlie, Sr., legally shortened the family’s name in 1949, according to court records in Pinellas County, Florida. The elder Crist’s father emigrated from Cyprus to the United States in 1912. We have also discovered a bit more about Crist’s personal details, much of which have been obscured because of Crist’s status as a “law enforcement officer.” Under post-Patriot Act laws, personal details on law enforcement officers are blocked by special statutes.
WMR received the following article Friday from George Maurer, a Key West Florida radio talk show host. This article contains information that every Florida voter should know before casting their ballot before or on November 7.
“At the outset of this message, let me first get something off my chest. I-m a gay man who, never since I realized same more than 30 years ago, has ever denied same, and who served 30 years in the Army/Army Reserve. About Florida congressperson Mark Foley, I-ve found these past few days particularly troubling, especially so as I-m a progressive Democrat and very troubled about the HYPOCRISY of many of our Republican opposition.
Starting at the top, we have AWOL George W. Bush who constantly gives TV speeches in front of and with a picture background of military audiences. AWOL George’s only military background was a 6-year obligation with the Texas Air National Guard which he used to get a deferment from going to Vietnam, and from which obligation he was Absent Without Leave (AWOL) for the last couple of years of his tour. This same hypocrite has taken us to mammoth, unjustified, unpaid, prolonged war, killing hundreds of thousands of people. In the last couple of days, he and his hypocritical colleagues have enacted a military detainee bill which broadly defines “enemy combatants” and makes any US citizen or resident subject to same, without right of habeas corpus review, review only by an “enemy combatant review tribunal.” They have voted to pay for and construct a 300-mile fence between the US-Mexico 3,000 mile border.
Now we have Mark Foley. As an adult, I-ve never fooled around with underage males, let alone those over whom I-ve had some degree of power.
Now, even the most staunch of Republicans must know about Florida congressperson Mark Foley. But what about Charlie Crist (Jr?), Florida’s Republican candidate for Governor?

Ok…..this is DEFINITELY News You Can Abuse………
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Loretta Nall, the Libertarian Party’s write-in candidate for governor of Alabama, is campaigning on her cleavage and hoping that voters will eventually focus on her platform.
“It started out as a joke, but it blew up into something huge,” said Nall, a 32-year-old with dyed blond hair.
Her campaign is offering T’shirts and marijuana stash boxes adorned with a photo of her with a plunging neckline and the words: “More of these boobs.” Below that are pictures of other candidates for governor - including Republican incumbent Bob Riley and Democratic Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley - and the words: “And less of these boobs.”

Today marks the end of Ramadan in the United States, the Muslim holiday Eid ul-Fitr. Typically, this involves prayer, the visiting of relatives and friends, acts of charity, the wearing of new or special clothes, and special foods and feasts (sadly, in some hot zones the visiting and intermingling are just too dangerous this year). The Wikipedia entry does a pretty nice job of covering different customs for Eid ul-Fitr in different countries.
Happy Eid, or Eid mubarak!

For the first time since the U.S. invasion of Iraq, active- duty members of the military are asking Members of Congress to end the U.S. occupation of Iraq and bring American soldiers home.
Sixty-five active-duty members have sent Appeals for Redress to Members of Congress. Three of these people (including two who served in Iraq) and their attorney will speak about this on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. EDT.
Under the Military Whistle-Blower Protection Act (DOD directive 7050.6), active-duty military, National Guard and Reservists can file and send a protected communication to a Member of Congress regarding any subject without reprisal.
What: Three active-duty members of the military and their lawyer, a retired U.S. Marine Corps JAG, make comments and take questions from the media.

Oh man on man…….how I want to see a Democrat Governor here. All you Democratic Floridians……VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!
Florida’s gubernatorial race between Republican Charlie Crist and Democrat Rep. Jim Davis has narrowed, with the two candidates running just about even, according to a new poll released Monday as early voting began in the state.
Crist, the state attorney general, had enjoyed double-digit leads in previous polls. The new Quinnipiac University Poll found him favored by 46 percent of likely voters to 44 percent for Davis, with 8 percent undecided. That is within the margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
Eleven percent of respondents indicated they could still change their minds.
Earlier this month, Crist was favored 53 percent to 43 percent in a similar sampling by the Connecticut-based polling institute. Gov. Jeb Bush is prohibited by law from seeking a third consecutive term.
