Calif. Gov. Schwarzenegger Breaks Leg in Skiing Accident in Idaho

SUN VALLEY, Idaho - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger broke his leg while skiing with his family Saturday morning in Sun Valley, Idaho, a spokesman said.

Schwarzenegger, 59, was taken to a hospital for X-rays and was discharged with a fracture to his right femur, said Adam Mendelsohn, the governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications.

The fracture was the third medical problem the governor suffered in a year.

He spent several hours at a University of California, Davis, hospital last December with a rapid heartbeat after coming down with a stomach flu. In January, Schwarzenegger needed 15 stitches to repair his cut lip after colliding with a car while riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle in Los Angeles.

Anti-American Sentiment Grows in Africa

      QuestionGirl     December 24th, 2006 - 9:59 am

Is there any place on earth where Anti-American sentiment ISN’T growing?

MOGADISHU, Somalia: The rally was supposed to be against Ethiopia, Somalia’s neighbor and historic archenemy, which in the past few weeks had sent troops streaming across the border in an attempt to check the power of the increasingly powerful Islamists who rule Mogadishu.

But the cheers that shook the stadium (which had no roof, by the way, and was riddled with bullet holes) were about another country, far, far away.

“Down, down U.S.A.!” thousands of Somalis yelled, many of them waving cocked Kalashnikovs. “Slit the throats of the Americans!”

Not exactly soothing words, especially when the passport in your pocket has one of those golden eagles on it.

Congress Postpones Raise

      QuestionGirl     December 24th, 2006 - 9:53 am

This is not a new story, but when I first heard this, I thought congress was opting out of their raises this time around……period. Oh no no no….. just until February 1st or until they approve an increase in the minimum wage. How nice of them, considering most all of them are millionaires to begin with.

WASHINGTON - President Bush signed an executive order Thursday to raise the pay of federal workers, members of Congress and Vice President Dick Cheney in the new year.

Congress passed the pay raises earlier this year, but Bush was required to sign an executive order to enforce them.

The president’s annual salary of $400,000 is not affected by the legislation.

The size of the pay raises was based on a formula in federal law that takes into account cost-of-living changes.

Civil servants, on average, will get a 2.2 percent pay increase in January. So will uniformed members of the military.

Members of Congress, the vice president and most senior federal officials will get a 1.7 percent pay increase, as will federal administrative law judges.

Congress opted to put off its pay increases until Feb. 16, not Jan. 1, on the urging of the incoming Democratic leaders in the House and Senate. They say no pay raise should kick in until Congress approves an increase in the federal minimum wage, which has been stuck at $5.15 an hour for the past 10 years.

Currently, rank-and-file members of Congress get $165,200.
