ANOTHER WEEKEND GONE……TOO SOON.

I was away for the weekend. Sometimes you just have to walk away……. or float away. I spent the weekend on the water. No computer…..cellphone off. Got back early this morning. I’d like to start the week of posting on a not so serious note. I love the sea. It can be so very calming……and it can be absolutely terrifying. I love the history that goes with it. I want to recommend a book…….”The Tragic History of the Sea: Shipwrecks from the Bible to Titanic,” by Anthony Brandt. It’s a compilation of 29 tales of shipwrecks. Some well known…..some not. It covers shipwrecks from the last 2000 years. If you’re a lover of the sea like me…… you’d love this book. Try it….. you’ll like it!

The Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade was this weekend in Fort Lauderdale. I love lit up boats!! In Chicago, Venetian Night always fascinated me. Here…..it’s the Winterfest Boat Parade. A good time was had by all. You can go here to watch videos of past parades….. but it doesn’t do justice to seeing it in person. If you ever have the opportunity to see a night time boat parade….. do it. It’s a sight to behold.

And last, I was reading about Fort Jefferson this weekend. It was originally built to protect the Gulf of Mexico shipping lanes and is part of the Dry Tortugas National Park. It was used during the Civil War to house prisoners. Although construction of the fort went on for 30 years, it was never completed. A most interesting piece of history, and one I haven’t visited in person…..YET. That’s on the list for 2007. You can read more about it here.

That’s my morning post……. now that I’m back on land…… I’ll get back to posting politics and news…..but I just wasn’t quite ready to let go of my love of the sea yet this morning!
