Senator Nelson (D-Fl) Wishy Washy Bullshit
by QuestionGirl

I watched my Senator, Bill Nelson, on C’span the other day, telling Condi that he could no longer support the President. He’s bugged me since I moved to Florida. He flip flopped on the off shore drilling here, and at the last minute supported it. He voted for the detainee bill (one of the few Democrats who did) and that was the icing on the cake for me. My choices in November…….it was him or Katherine Harris. I was very happy last week to see him finally representing ME. But then today…..I get an email from the Progressive Caucus, which refers me to Think Progress, and their congressional tally of who’s for and who’s against Bush’s escalation of this war. According to them, Nelson is opposed. I’ve written him several times about this issue. But wait…..ten minutes later I get this email from Nelson:

Dear Ms. :

Thank you for contacting me regarding military operations in Iraq, and sharing your concerns about the continuing role of U.S. troops. I am working with my colleagues in the Senate and the leadership of our Armed Forces to ensure that our troops have everything they need to be successful.

I share your concern for our men and women in uniform, and, like all Americans, I grieve for every casualty. It is essential that we move quickly to set up a trained and equipped Iraqi security force and a governmental structure that will lead to real stability. Like you, I am looking forward to that time, not least because it will enable the safe return of our troops.

I always appreciate hearing from Floridians who are informed about and interested in important issues for Florida and the nation. Please do not hesitate to contact my office on any other issue.

Does that sound like he’s opposed to the escalation? I think not. I don’t trust this guy at all. I wrote him back and told him I want a one word answer to the question, is he or is he not opposed to a surge in troops. Yes or no. No political wishy washy bullshit…. just a simple yes or no. Think I’ll hear back from him?

Not related, but one of my next emails…..a Yahoo alert:

WASHINGTON (AP) The Pentagon has completed a manual for upcoming detainee trials that would allow suspected terrorists to be imprisoned or executed using hearsay evidence and coerced testimony.
