The Pipettes - “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me”

Here’s Brit girl-group The Pipettes (with backing band The Cassettes), a deliberate throwback in style with some twists in content. Indie without the angst, with some witty (and smutty) lyrics, their hallmarks are the overlapping, harmonizing vocals of their 60s predecessors, synched moves and (usually) signature polka dot dresses. Most of their tunes are much more lush than this one and they have more elaborate, creative, polished and higher-res videos (I’ll feature some in later Clue Blue installments). But I had to kick off with this one because I’m just struck by how a sassy little pop song suddenly breaks out with a gorgeous vocal by Welsh member Gwenno Saunders. Cymru am beth, baby!
