While I’m glad to see congress attempting to do something to bring the Iraq war to an end, the passing of the Iraq bill in the house today is not going anywhere. It’s very unlikely to pass in the senate, and if it does, Bush will veto it. Someone on a blog today said to me, if it’s vetoed, then he has no funds for the war and it will have to end.” We all know that IF it gets to his desk (and that’s a big fat if) and he vetoes it, the war is NOT going to end. Democrats are celebrating today. Yet, 68 of our troops have died this month in Iraq and who knows how many are injured and maimed. Veterans are laying in piss soaked sheets with maggot filled wounds. Iraqis are getting tatooes so they can be identified when they get killed and burned. There are no medical supplies available to the Iraq people. Our troops continue to be redeployed to Iraq for the 3rd, 4th, even 5th time, even if they’ve been declared unfit for combat. How many more will die??? How many more will have their lifes destroyed due to injuries and wounds……the kind you can see and the kind you can’t? The provision in the bill stating that Bush has to get congressional approval to strike Iran was removed. (The day after the AIPAC convention). The Iranians have seized 15 British soldiers. The Brits claim they were in Iraqi waters, the Iranians claim they were in Iranian waters. I’d love to believe the Brits, but I don’t. I see us marching into another useless war. Somehow that bill passing today didn’t send me into a fit of happiness. You can call me a whine baby if you like…..but the fact is, the war will continue. More death. More wounded. Whether it be the Republicans or the Democrats keeping it going……it will keep on going. I guess the reality of that has sunk in. Until Bush and gang are gone, it will carry on. And that’s so friggin depressing to me. No celebration here today. Am I the only one feeling like this????
