Senate Committee Hearing on Veterans Mental Health Issues

From IAVA:

On Wednesday at 2:00pm ET, the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs will be holding a hearing on the mental health issues faced by returning combat veterans. IAVA Legislative Director Patrick Campbell will be talking about recent efforts by the VA to address these issues, and about his own experiences in Iraq. Ellen and Randy Omvig, whose son Joshua committed suicide just a few months after returning from a tour of duty in Iraq, will be speaking on the panel with him.

You can watch the hearing live here. If you can’t watch it live, you can watch it afterwards on the Committee’s website.

A psychiatrist at the Walter Reed Medical Army Medical Center predicted that up to 29% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans will suffer from PTSD over their lifetime.1 According to the American Psychological Association, “appropriate mental health services are often not readily available” to troops or their families.2

It is absolutely essential that we work to understand the struggles these men and women face when they come home, so that we can make sure they get the long-term care they need and have earned. I thank you for getting involved on these important issues.

Please forward this email to any of your friends who you think might be interested, and urge them to sign up as IAVA supporters.

Thank you for your continued support.

I hope I can watch this. I hope ALOT of people watch this!!!
