“Last month we started a new discussion on our website to gauge the sentiments of the American people on the question of impeachment. I asked, “Is it time to start talking about it?”
The response from the American people was very powerful. I’ve heard from people from one end of the country to the other, saying not only was it time to begin the talk, but it’s time to reclaim our country, to reclaim our high standards.
In my discussions with people in New Hampshire, in Washington State and in Oregon in the last two weeks, I’ve seen a very serious, purposeful approach to the issue of impeachment. People are discussing it, not from the standpoint of their personal feelings towards Mr. Bush or Mr. Cheney, but they’re talking about it from the standpoint of “Who are we as an American people? What are our standards? What is it that we expect from public officials? What should be the conduct of an individual who holds the office of President or Vice President?”And so, from this very soulful, dedicated approach that people all over the country are demonstrating, I’ve been listening very carefully in coming to a decision about what course of action should be taken. And I’ll give you that decision very soon.
But I want to let you know — all those of you who are concerned about what’s been going on in America — that I’ve heard what you have to say, that I’ve listened to you closely, that I’ve gone to your meetings in areas from one end of the country to the other. And I want to let you know that all of your concerns have been felt by me, they’re accepted by me, and I look forward to speaking with you very soon about a course of action.
