Well, that’s 45 days more than “OxyContin Rush” served. But you have to give Hilton’s publicist credit for trying to take the fall for the rich brat. (Seeing as how the little scheme didn’t work, I wonder if the publicist got paid?)

Jubilant Paris Hilton out of jail

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) – Hotel heiress Paris Hilton walked out of a Los Angeles-area jail early Tuesday with a big smile on her face after serving 23 days for violating her probation on a reckless driving conviction.

The 26-year-old multimillionaire was sentenced to 45 days for the 2006 probation violation but served about half the term, gaining credit for good behavior.

“She has fulfilled her debt to society and it’s now concluded,” said sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.

Her jail time was sparked by her arrest in September on a drunken-driving charge.

She admitted alcohol-related reckless driving in January and was sentenced to three years’ probation but was caught driving the following month on a suspended license. Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer ruled in May this violated her probation.

He rejected Hilton’s defense that her publicist had misinformed her about the status of her license.

According to preliminary data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 17,941 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes - an average of one every half-hour. These deaths constituted approximately 41 percent of the 43,300 total traffic fatalities. Drunk (those at or above an illegal BAC of .08) drivers were involved in 13990 fatalities in 2006.

This is an increase from 2005, when 17,525 people were killed in alcohol-related traffic crashes and 13,613 people were killed in crashes involving drunk drivers. (MADD Online)
