Told you I hope they didn’t get in any trouble. Last year during Fleet Week, a sailor got “stuck on stupid” and boarded a couple’s boat in the middle of the night…..and destroyed it. I hope this wasn’t Mary’s son. Please tell us it wasn’t Mary!!! Whoever’s relative/friend it was, my sympathies are with you!

FORT LAUDERDALE - A Navy sailor visiting Fort Lauderdale for the weekend died after jumping off the Las Olas Bridge Sunday night.

The incident occurred a little before 8 p.m., according to Fort Lauderdale Police spokeswoman Kathy Collins.

The man’s friends told police that he jumped from the bridge into the Intracoastal Waterway.

When police found the man’s body in the water, he was not breathing, Colins said.

Paramedics had to resuscitate him, and he was taken to Broward General Hospital where he later died.

The sailor was stationed aboard the USS Truman, which is in Fort Lauderdale for a port of call.

Collins said it was unclear why the man jumped off the bridge, but it did not appear to be suicide.

Police were still investigating the incident Sunday night.
