QuestionGirl July 26th, 2007 - 6:40 pmI’d like to know who the contractors were. 9.6 million……that’s no chump change.
From TurkishPress.com:
US authorities have arrested the sister of a US army officer accused of taking millions of dollars in bribes while he managed defense contracts in Iraq and Kuwait, the Justice Department said.
Carolyn Blake, 44, was arrested Tuesday evening in Dallas and is accused of helping deposit vast bribes allegedly received by her brother, Major John Cockerham, while he was deployed in Kuwait, the Justice Department said Wednesday in a statement.
Blake is charged with conspiracy to defraud the US government and to carry out money laundering. Cockerham’s wife, Melissa Cockerham, 40, was arrested earlier this week and faces the same money laundering charges, it said.
Both are accused of depositing bribery money in bank accounts and safe deposit boxes in Kuwait and Dubai under the direction of Major Cockerham.
The US army officer, 41, who was arrested at a Texas army base late Sunday, is charged with bribery, money laundering and conspiracy while he served as a contracting officer in Kuwait in 2004 and 2005.
According to the Justice Department, Cockerham may have received up to 9.6 million dollars in bribe payments from at least eight contractors and anticipated receiving more than five millions dollars more.
