CRAWFORD, United States (AFP) - US President George W. Bush’s daughter Jenna, 25, is engaged to be married to long-time boyfriend Henry Hager, US First Lady Laura Bush’s spokeswoman announced Thursday.

The two got engaged in Maine, and no wedding date has been set, said Sally McDonough, who could not confirm whether Hager had asked her parents for permission or say how they found out about the engagement.

“President and Mrs. George W. Bush are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenna Bush, to Mr. Henry Hager, son of the Honorable and Mrs. John H. Hager of Richmond, Virginia. Miss Bush and Mr. Hager became engaged Wednesday, August 15, 2007,” she said.

Bush’s other twin daughter, Barbara, is not married.

Hager, 29, is due to return at the end of the month to the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business to complete his degree program, said McDonough.

Jenna Bush and her mother are writing a children’s book about a mischievous schoolboy, due to be published later this year, publisher HarperCollins announced last week.

The picture book, which is so far without a title, is set in a school and tells the story of a young boy who doesn’t like to read but ends up delving into books with the help and encouragement of his teacher.

The book, which is due to appear in English and Spanish, is set for release early next year. The authors’ proceeds from the book will go to two national teacher programs: Teach for America and The New Teacher Project.
