Blackwater Shootings on Videotape

Next weeks meeting between President ShitforBrains and Prime Minister Nouri al-Shitforbrains’s boy should be interesting. al-Maliki will probably be a good boy and do whatever Bush tells him to do.

Iraqi investigators have a videotape that shows Blackwater USA guards opened fire against civilians without provocation in an incident last week in which 11 people died, a senior Iraqi official said Saturday. He said the case had been referred to the Iraqi judiciary.

Iraq’s president, meanwhile, demanded that the Americans release an Iranian arrested this week on suspicion of smuggling weapons to Shiite militias. The demand adds new strains to U.S.-Iraqi relations only days before a meeting between President Bush and Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf said Iraqi authorities had completed an investigation into the Sept. 20 shooting in Nisoor Square in western Baghdad and concluded that Blackwater guards were responsible for the deaths.

Meanwhile Back in Iraq…..

The UN is hosting a meeting today to discuss how to get Iraq back on it’s feet. Saturday’s gathering will be attended by representatives from 20 countries, including the five permanent members of the UN Security Council — Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States — and eight neighbors of Iraq — Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Turkey.

The U.S. states its made 25 arrests in the assassination of the leader of the U.S.-backed revolt by Sunni Arab tribesmen in the western Anbar province against al-Qaida in Iraq.

Bush plans to ask for $200 billion for the Iraq war in 2008 budget.

Some 150 Sunni Arab families were displaced from a mixed Sunni and Shiite neighborhood after clashes between residents and Mahdi Army militia, loyal to radical Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Iraqis are once again streaming into Syria, taking advantage of the Syrian government’s relaxation of visa regulations due to the holy month of Ramadan. It’s reported 1,000 Iraqis a day are crossing the border.

Security developments in Iraq 9/22/07

Kurds in Iraq are demanding the release of the Iranian trade official kidnapped and arrested this week.

There is widespread skeptism about the report that the surge is working.

More delays in shift of security control to the Iraqis. Goalposts keep on moving. Now July is the goal date.

According to a Pentagon report, 60% of trained Iraqi security forces have disappeared.

But hey, things are going so well, congress felt it could waste time on a useless vote to condemn freedom of speech. Idiots.

Marcia Clark now reporting on O.J.

By LYNN ELBER
The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Twelve years after Marcia Clark heard jurors pronounce O.J. Marcia_Clark.jpgSimpson innocent of murder, the former prosecutor carried her enduring guilt into another courtroom with the ex-football star.

This time, Clark was the most startling member of the media pack covering Simpson’s Las Vegas felony arrest. As legal correspondent for “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider,” she had the chance to tell the world what she thinks of Simpson - and she used it.

“Just seeing him back in court again, facing charges. I can’t believe it. It’s just surreal,” she said in an interview with The Associated Press. “He skated on two murder charges, and he managed to get out of other charges of much lesser gravity since then. How did he manage to get himself back in trouble again?

“How stupid do you have to be?”

On the air, Clark’s voice drips with more disgust. She dismissed Simpson’s book, “If I Did It,” as “hideous” and “all a lie.” Indirectly addressing his girlfriend Christine Prody, a Nicole Brown-lookalike who stood by him in court Wednesday, Clark said: “It made me sick to my stomach. Do you not realize you could be next?”

Bush: Kids’ health care will get vetoed

WASHINGTON - President Bush again called Democrats “irresponsible” on Saturday for pushing an expansion he opposes to a children’s health insurance program.

“Democrats in Congress have decided to pass a bill they know will be vetoed,” Bush said of the measure that draws significant bipartisan support, repeating in his weekly radio address an accusation he made earlier in the week. “Members of Congress are risking health coverage for poor children purely to make a political point.”

At issue is the Children’s Health Insurance Program, a state-federal program that subsidizes health coverage for low-income people, mostly children, in families that earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but not enough to afford private coverage. It expires Sept. 30.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers announced a proposal Friday that would add $35 billion over five years to the program, adding 4 million people to the 6.6 million already participating. It would be financed by raising the federal cigarette tax by 61 cents to $1 per pack.

Edwards Unveils Plan to Revamp Education

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards rolled out a program for reforming primary education in the United States on Friday, proposing to pay teachers up to $15,000 more in high poverty areas and initiating universal preschool. Edwards detailed the proposals, which also include longer school years and overhauling the No Child Left Behind education law, in a speech at Brody Middle School in Des Moines.

He called the federal law enacted by the Bush administration “a case study in what’s broken in Washington, D.C.” and said it needs to be radically reformed, to which he received the largest applause from a crowd of 300, largely supporters and school staff, who filled the school auditorium.

“It’s a needlessly punitive arbitrary harsh approach to a genuine need of our schools,” he said.

Rather than requiring students to take standardized tests, Edwards said assessments that measure higher-order thinking skills must be developed, including open-ended essays, oral examinations, projects and experiments.

Fred Thompson Thinks God Wants Us to Have Guns

Ok, we already have one freak in the White House……we don’t need another one!

From MSNBC:

Fred Thompson, who hopes to have support from conservative groups like the NRA, enjoyed a warm reception. He called for the protection of all basic rights. “We are here today not just because we support the Second Amendment,” Thompson said, “we are here today for our support of the rest of the Constitution.”

Asked about regulation at gun shows, Thompson responded, “Well, having just come from one –” referring to the gun show he visited in Florida last week. After some laughter, Thompson said the government should not restrict the rights of private citizens, in the home or at gun shows.

At most of his campaign stops, Thompson tells people “basic rights come from God and not from government.” For that line, he usually receives a fair response, but the NRA members reacted to it with much louder applause, providing the best reaction so far.

Also, like he often does, Thompson praised his wife. But this time, he went farther and made a jab at the Clintons. “I think she’d make a much better First Lady than Bill Clinton.”

Former NBA Coach to Run For Congress

Former NBA coach and commentator Dick Versace is looking for a new job: congressman.

The 67-year-old Versace, a Democrat, said Thursday that he will bid for the 18th Congressional District seat in central Illinois. Incumbent Republican Ray LaHood announced in July he will retire when his term runs out in 2009.

Versace said he will tour the district in a 28-foot motor home called the “Common Sense Express” after he formally announces his intention to run for office at a news conference in the next couple of weeks.

“I’m going on a listening tour,” he said.

Weller Announces Retirement

Seems one of Jerry’s aides didn’t like political reporter Mike Flannery’s questions and pushed him down a stairwell at the Joliet Junior College after this announcement. Flannery plans to sue. There’s also a report from last night that he DOESN’T plan to step down. I think he’s H I S T O R Y! AMF!!!

Amid a growing list of questions about his Nicaraguan land dealings, his wife’s investments and his relationship to an indicted defense contractor, U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller (R-Ill.) announced Friday he will not seek another term.

The seven-term congressman whose district includes Joliet said he was calling it quits after 25 years in politics to spend more time with his wife, Guatemalan legislator Zury Rios de Weller, and their 1-year-old daughter. He made the announcement at a luncheon of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce, which gave Weller its Spirit of Enterprise Award.

A Tribune investigation recently revealed Weller failed to disclose several Nicaraguan land transactions on his congressional ethics forms. The newspaper also recently reported that a charity formed by his wife raised questions about whether he had legally excluded her assets from congressional filings.

Weller also is among 13 House members subpoenaed to testify in the criminal case of a defense contractor accused of bribing then-Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-Calif.). They are fighting the subpoenas.

Six Held In West Virginia Torture Horror

from The Smoking Gun

A black West Virginia woman was sexually assaulted, stabbed, and tortured while being held captive by her white abductors, one of whom told her, “That’s what we do to niggers around here.”

The 23-year-old victim was freed Saturday after cops responded to the home of Frankie Brewster for a “welfare check on a female that was reportedly being held against her will.” When cops arrived, Brewster claimed she was the only one home, but then the victim limped to the door and said, “Help me.”

According to six harrowing criminal complaints, the woman, who apparently had been held for more than a week, had four stab wounds in her left leg, bruised eyes, and had been repeatedly sexually assaulted and humiliated. The woman told police that she was forced to lick Brewster’s “toes, vagina, and anal cavity.”

Brewster’s son Bobby forced the woman to eat dog and rat feces, according to one complaint filed in Logan County Magistrate Court. The victim, who is now hospitalized, was raped at knifepoint, choked with a cable cord, and had her hair pulled and cut during the ordeal.

Police, who have arrested six defendants for their roles in the abduction and attack, are looking for other suspects who may have lured the victim to Brewster’s home. The arrestees are Frankie Brewster, 49; Bobby Brewster, 24; Danny Combs, 20; George Messer, 27; Alisha Burton, 22; and Karen Burton, 46.

Blackwater in the News Again

Let’s see, killing innocent civilians…….an investigation into whether they smuggled weapons into Iraq to sell on the black market……yet we’re still bankrolling them.

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether employees of the private security firm Blackwater USA illegally smuggled weapons into Iraq that may have been sold on the black market and ended up in the hands of a U.S.-designated terrorist organization, officials said Friday.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Raleigh, North Carolina, is handling the investigation with help from Pentagon and State Department auditors, who have concluded there is enough evidence to file charges, the officials told The Associated Press.

Blackwater is based in Moyock, North Carolina.

The U.S. attorney for the eastern district of North Carolina, George Holding, and a spokeswoman for Blackwater did not return calls seeking.
