QuestionGirl November 16th, 2007 - 8:20 amPresident Bush said Thursday the way the Senate reviews his picks for the federal bench has become so partisan and mean’spirited that qualified candidates decline because they don’t want to go through a confirmation hearing.
Mean’spirited? No…..that’s just them doing their jobs. I know it’s been awhile since you’ve witnessed that….but that’s what they’re there for. Maybe your candidates decline because they have something to hide.

“…has become so partisan and mean-spirited”
I guess when you invited specific members of both the journalist and punditry fields to the WH for a sit down with you, maybe you should have told them to knock off the inflated, anti-all-things-dem rhetoric.
You didn’t just ask for this. You begged for it, Mr. Bush!
I agree with QG. If they truly want to serve their country, and have nothing to hide, a confirmation hearing would be a cake-walk for them and they know it.

The Senate review process is to determine if they ARE qualified candidates. The decider is just whining about the fact that there are still SOME things that others are involved in deciding. Bush: things would be so much easier with a dictatorship…..as long as I’m the dictator. If they are not willing to defend their record and clearly define their positions then they should not be allowed to sit on the bench. If there is anybody we should be particularly judgemental about it’s judges. For all I care Mrs. Alito can cry all the way back to the Country Club, sipping wine and eating beef and veal medallions along the way in her stretch limo.
