Quote Of The Day
by Buck
America is ready for a president like [me]. People today are angry at their government because it’s dysfunctional.

-Republican presidential contender & God’s #1 go-to man, Mike Huckabee

Huckabee is right. We do have a dysfunctional government. Mostly that way because of crappy republican pro-corporate / pro-wealthy policies, coupled with a severe religious stranglehold over the party.

So, Huckabee is for more of the same. Hey, that’s the ticket!

Chavez For Life?
by Buck

If it’s a fair election, and it’s what the majority of Venezuelans want, then I have no problem with it. It’s their business.

But, you have to admit, Chavez is not the most stable leader going. Monday may prove to be the beginning of (even more so) bad times at the ol’ gas pump.

Chavez Backers Rally for Charter Changes

chavez.gifCARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — President Hugo Chavez urged supporters Friday to approve constitutional changes that he said could keep him in power for life and threatened to cut off oil exports to the United States if it tries to meddle in Sunday’s vote.
[...]

“If ‘Yes’ wins on Sunday and the Venezuelan oligarchy, the violent Venezuelans - the ones who play the (U.S.) empire’s game - unleash violence with the tale that there was fraud … minister, that very Monday you order a halt to the shipments of oil to the United States,” Chavez said, addressing his oil minister, Rafael Ramirez.

Venezuela was the fourth largest oil exporter to the United States in 2006.

Halting exports to the U.S., the No. 1 buyer of Venezuelan oil, would cut off a major source of income for the Venezuelan government.

Bush Administration Mug Shot Exhibit
by QuestionGirl

The New York Public Library has a photo exhibit on display by artists Nora Ligorano and Marshall Reese called “Line Up.” It’s mug shots of Bush, Cheney, Kindasleezy, Rove, Gonzales and Rumsfeld. Sounds good to me. The dates on each image match the dates that each official spoke about Iraq in ways the artists consider criminal.

Matthew Walter, spokesman for the New York Republican State Committee, said: “It is simply inappropriate to have political attack in the form of egregious doctored photographs of the president and other high-ranking officials who have dedicated their lives to public service in a taxpayer-funded building frequented schoolchildren and the general public.”

Gee Matthew, I think you got that wrong. Try dedicated their lives to ripping off taxpayers.

Rudd Says Troops Out By Mid 2008
by QuestionGirl

We need more world leaders like him……. congratulations to Australia for getting rid of Howard!

Australia’s new leader, Kevin Rudd, has said he will pull his country’s troops out of Iraq by mid-2008, fulfilling a promise he made during the election campaign.
Rudd said he would meet Robert McCallum, the US ambassador to Australia, soon to discuss the precise timing of the withdrawal.

The 50-year-old politician, who will be sworn in as prime minister on Monday, has said he believes the presence of troops in Iraq has made Australia more of a target for terrorism.

“The combat force in Iraq we would have home by around about the middle of next year,” Rudd said in a radio interview in the southern city of Melbourne.

Several hundred troops will remain in Iraq in supporting roles, such as providing security to diplomats. Australia also has about 1,000 troops in Afghanistan but there are no plans to reduce their numbers.

Rudd’s stance is in direct contrast with that of his predecessor, John Howard, who had close ties to the US president, George Bush, and sent 2,000 troops to support the US and British forces during the 2003 invasion. Howard refused to set a timetable for pulling out the troops, saying that withdrawal would be a sign of weakness on the part of the allied forces.
