The Caveman
by QuestionGirl

I’m reminded of words from Curb Your Enthusiasm, on of my favorite tv shows:

You know what? There’s a jetstream of bullshit coming out of your mouth, my friend …

via TTagaris:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made it clear earlier today that he intends to disregard Senator Dodd’s hold on FISA. And because he chose the path of least resistance for it’s passage, it appears we’ll see a filibuster next week.

Chris Dodd will lead that effort, but he can’t speak forever and will need to lateral the ball at some point if we are going to sustain a filibuster for more than 8 hours or so.

The Senate phones need to be ringing off the fucking wall through the weekend and all Monday morning folks.

Kucinich Welcomes Support from Judiciary Committee Members on Impeachment
by QuestionGirl
Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich’s push to initiate impeachment hearings against Vice President Richard B. Cheney received a significant boost today when three of his Democratic Congressional colleagues, all members of the House Judiciary Committee, endorsed Kucinichs call for action.

In a joint public announcement today, Representatives Robert Wexler, Luis Gutierrez, and Tammy Baldwin said, The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unnecessary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings.

Kucinich is the only Democratic Presidential candidate who has called for impeachment proceedings. The other candidates have either dodged the issue or deferred to the comments of the Democratic Congressional leadership that the impeachment issue is off the table.

I appreciate the support of my good friends in this effort to hold our highest elected officials accountable, under the Constitution of the United States of America, for their violations and abuses of their sworn oaths to the Constitution and to the people of this nation, Kucinich said. With the continuing drumbeat from the Administration toward a possible war with Iran, the need for hearings is more urgent than ever.

Kucinich introduced the impeachment resolution on April 24, 2007; and, last month, brought it to the floor of the House, where members voted to refer it to the Judiciary Committee for further consideration. The call to action by three Democratic members of that Committee might help move it out of the hopper and onto the calendar.

Kucinich will be campaigning in New Hampshire this weekend.

Mukasey to Congress: No No and No
by QuestionGirl

Well thank you so much for confirming a prick who couldn’t even decide if waterboarding is torture. Another Bush lacky. Mukasey has refused lawmakers’ demands for information as the Justice Department investigates the destruction of tapes showing CIA interrogations of two al Qaeda suspects. Now get this….. he states in a letter to them:

“At my confirmation hearing, I testified that I would act independently, resist political pressure and ensure that politics plays no role in cases brought by the Department of Justice”

Yes, resist political pressure to do what’s right. The only political pressure that will play a role with him is the pressure to cover the criminals asses.

Revelations

Pelosi says Republicans ‘like’ Iraq war

“They like this war. They want this war to continue,” Pelosi, D-Calif., told reporters. She expressed frustration over Republicans’ ability to force majority Democrats to yield ground on taxes, spending, energy, war spending and other matters.

Republicans are only doing what they feel is right. And, while even in the minority, they do their jobs well. For democrats it’s a whole other story. Grow a spine, for gosh’sakes!

“We thought that they shared the view of so many people in our country that we needed a new direction in Iraq,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference in the Capitol. “But the Republicans have made it very clear that this is not just George Bush’s war. This is the war of the Republicans in Congress.”

That’s right, folks. Nancy can now see that republicans are in lock’step with Bush. She doesn’t need a tree falling on her head… or millions of screaming Americans to point this fact out to her. Just one full year of people senselessly and needlessly dying in Iraq is all it took to clue her in!

“And that was a revelation to me,” she said, “because I thought the American people’s voices were so — and still are — so strong in this regard.”

American voices have also been strong on the subject of IMPEACHMENT, Nancy. How about it?

Pelosi, who opposed the U.S.-led invasion from the start, said the war was “a catastrophic mistake.”

Look! She got one right!

Despite being forced to make concessions on multiple fronts, Pelosi said Democrats have been fiscally responsible and attuned to the public’s concerns. As a result, she said, voters will reward Democrats in next year’s presidential and congressional elections.

Here she’s getting a little ahead of herself. Nancy, I have something to tell you that you may want to sit down for. You’re facing a questionable political future too, dear!

In response, House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in statement: “Republicans have stood on principle to protect current and future generations of Americans, whether it polled well or not. The success our troops are having in Iraq today is proof positive that our stance was the right one.”

In this universe there can’t exist an article on democratic points without the injection of at least one republican counter-point. (Or, should I say, “talking point”?) Boner, how is sticking our troops in the middle of a civil war protecting us now and in the future?

How many times can that question go unanswered?

But I can guaran-damn-tee, after the next attack on American soil (God forbid!), republicans will be quick to put the blame on anti-war democrats.
