Gun Ownership: “It’s A Liberty Factor”
Buck December 24th, 2007 - 11:53 amOk. If you are pro-gun ownership for one and all, including the mentally retarded, YOU ARE STUPID!
No ifs, ands or buts… YOU ARE STUPID!
Accept it as fact, for that is what you are - STUPID!
What this country needs is a national IQ test, say, every five years or so. If you fail, you leave.
Va. Tech Families to Lobby Legislature
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — As he sat in a hospital, watching blood ooze from his son Colin’s gunshot wounds, Andrew Goddard negotiated with a higher power: Let my son live, and I will do what I can to spare another parent this torture.
Colin survived, despite the four bullets fired into him by Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho.
Now his father is making good on the deal: He and relatives of others killed or injured on the campus in Blacksburg will lobby for changes to the state’s gun and mental health laws during the General Assembly session that begins Jan. 9.
[...]However, people can still buy guns through other means that require no background check in Virginia, such as gun shows where scores of people sell or swap firearms.
[...]Joseph Samaha, whose daughter Reema was killed in the shootings, asked state Sen.-elect Robert Hurt: “What is the fear of someone having to go through the background check?”
Hurt responded that closing the loophole would infringe on a person’s right to possess a firearm.
“Is it a nuisance factor?” Samaha challenged.
Hurt paused, then said: “More important, it’s a liberty factor.”
The families will encounter many other lawmakers who share Hurt’s views, but they’re determined to forge ahead.
Liberty factor? What about the liberties of those killed, Mr. Hurt?
I suppose Mr. Hurt would also argue for no car seats for infants, for a free pass for drunk driving… etc. Hey, it’s all about ‘liberty’, right?
STUPID PEOPLE ought not be in positions of power.

Buck, if we follow your logic we need to ban cars, booze, stoves that burn people, all drugs, doctors, icy sidewalks as well as everything else that has ever killed or injured someone. Do not forget that ships sink, remember the Titanic! I am a vteteran as well as having possessed fire arms since I was 5 years old and shooting on an international rifle team. I have never, not once ever shot or killed anyone that was not trying to kill me.

TOB, I think you may have misread me. I’m not advocating gun control. I own guns myself. I just think the mentally retarded shouldn’t have them.
If I defended that, then I would have to defend drunk driving. I know of no sane person that can do that.

This I agree with also. I also agree that straw purchase and other loopholes need to be closed. In TN you cannot buy a gun at a gun show without background check. I tried at Meadowview in Kport.

Being raised up here in KY, I’ve done my fair share of squirrel hunting. Haven’t hunted in years though. People can say what they want, but there’s nothing better in the world that a pot full of squirrel dumplings! (well, maybe second. I love pinto beans)
Yeah, it’s kinda along the lines of free speech. I’m all for it, of course. But I recognize the fact that we ought not be yelling fire in a crowded theater.
Putting limits/controls on freedoms make them sound not so much like freedoms after all. And I hate that. And I also hate saying that I see the necessity in it.

Yeah, opposition to background checks and a wait is asinine. People can wait.

I once made a 3×12″ skillet of squirrel pot pie that was so good that no one else got a bite. Pintos, cornbread and fried potatoes is what I was raised on. Still my favorite. I haven’t hunted in years either. I am having a hard time justifying killing anything. Deer are over running everything here, plenty of apple orchards for them to nibble on. Orchard owners get permits to kill as many as they want but still do not make a dent.

TOB, I hear ya!
What I do is break up my cornbread, cover it up with fried ‘taters’, then smother all that with beans. Cover that up with cut up green onions and a spoon full of hot salt meat grease drizzled over all of it… damn!
Salt meat is a rarity now. WHY is everything good have to be bad for you???
My family opens presents on Christmas eve. My brother, Kevin, just told me we’re having beans and taters! Tomorrow, we’ll get together over at moms for a turkey dinner.

ok, I’ll bite on all of it but the squirrel pot pie. Ewwww Ewwww Ewwww

We should just outlaw bullets, that or charge a hundred dollars each for them!

QG, take a warm iron skillet and grease it up with butter. Then using flaky biscuits pulled apart line the pan then pour in your squirrel stew. Top with more flaky biscuits creating a crust. Pop it in the oven for about 30 mins at 325 or until golden brown. Then dig in. Yum

I never tasted squirrel and ahhhhhh I don’t think I will. What’s it taste like? And don’t say chicken!

QG, that’s a hard one too describe. Have you ever had venison? Squirrel isn’t nearly as ‘gamy’ as deer. It falls somewhere in between deer and chicken is the best way I can describe it.

lafin, that would work!
