Judge Orders White House to Reveal Backup Emails

      QuestionGirl     January 8th, 2008 - 11:20 pm

Yah, this will happen……… good try, though.

A federal magistrate ordered the White House on Tuesday to reveal whether copies of possibly millions of missing e-mails are stored on computer backup tapes.

The order by U.S. Magistrate Judge John Facciola comes amid an effort by the White House to scuttle two lawsuits that could force the Executive Office of the President to recover any e-mail that has disappeared from computer servers where electronic documents are automatically archived.

Two federal laws require the White House to preserve all records, including e-mail.

“Restroom enthusiast Senator Larry Craig said today the only reason he plead guilty to that incident in the Minneapolis airport bathroom was because he was being hounded by reporters investigating rumors that he was gay. And what better way to shoot down those rumors, really.”
-Jay Leno

Cagle cartoons

Why can’t they just let Sen. Craig have a walk on this? Do they not realize just how instrumental he has been at keeping gays down? For you see, a bigot makes for a great republican senator. And a lying, hypocritical bigot is, well, just as nice.

Embattled senator Craig files appeal over guilty plea in sex sting

WASHINGTON - Lawyers for Sen. Larry Craig asked a Minnesota appeals court Tuesday to allow him to withdraw his guilty plea stemming from his June arrest in a public bathroom sex sting, citing a “grave procedural flaw.”

The Idaho Republican argues that a state law related to his misdemeanor conviction is unconstitutional and that it “manifestly unjust” not to allow the lawmaker to be given another chance to prove his innocence.

A state judge refused on October 4 to allow the senator to withdraw his earlier plea. Judge Charles Porter ruled the plea “was accurate, voluntary and intelligent, and … supported by the evidence.” Craig had earlier promised to resign if the judge ruled against his motion, but he changed his mind and vowed to stay in office until his term expires in early 2009. He is not seeking re-election this year.

Iron My Shirt

Sexism is alive and well in America.

Iron my Shirt!

Presidential contender Hillary Clinton was about to speak at a high school in Salem, N.H., when some sexist moron stood up and started chanting, “Iron my shirt“. He also held a banner which read the same.

After he (and another man) were shown the door, Mrs. Clinton said, “As I think has just been abundantly demonstrated, I am also running to break through the highest and hardest glass ceiling“, which drew a standing ovation and much cheering from the crowd.

Think this is bad? Considering that N.H. is a northern state, the worst is yet to come.

Irrelevant Reichwing Nutjobs

We here at Blue Herald rarely, if ever, post anything related to reichwing nutjob Michelle Malkin. Partly because she’s reichwing. Partly because she’s a nutjob. But mostly because she’s becoming more and more irrelevant by the hour.

Sadly, No! has a post up exposing Michelle’s brand of lunacy. Click the link, if you have the intestinal fortitude.

Federal Budget Deficit Inches Up in First Quarter

      QuestionGirl     January 8th, 2008 - 11:11 am

The federal budget deficit inched up in the first quarter of the fiscal year, congressional budget estimators said Monday, as the growth in tax revenues slowed along with the softening economy.

The budget deficit is $27 billion higher after the first three months of the 2008 budget year that began Oct. 1 than it was after a comparable period for 2007, said the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

The government ran a $163 billion deficit in fiscal 2007, the lowest in five years. The deficit for the first three months of the current budget year is $107 billion, as opposed to $80 billion for the first three months of fiscal 2007.

Revenues grew at a 5.6 percent rate, CBO said, about 2 percentage points less than the 2007 growth rate. At the same time, spending grew at an almost 9 percent rate.

Corporate income tax receipts are down 5 percent so far in the 2008 budget year, reversing the sharp growth experienced last year. That’s a result of the shaky economy, CBO said.

“The decline in receipts probably reflects a drop in corporate profits that has occurred over the past year,” said the CBO report.

On the spending side, defense outlays grew by about 8 percent, CBO said, while the growth of the Medicaid program for the poor and disabled spiraled upward at an almost 11 percent rate. But lower-than-expected prescription drug costs held Medicare outlays flat.

America’s Woes: Bush Says We Are To Blame

      Buck     January 8th, 2008 - 9:47 am

Bush says “this economy rests in the hands of the American people, not in the halls of our government.

Bullshit!

I can’t say I have a clear understanding on how our economy works, but I’m pretty sure that Bush is wrong here. With all things being relative, Bush’s pro-war policies alone have wreaked havoc on our economy. Insanely huge debt and high crude prices brought about by the Iraqi and Afghani conflicts have a lot to do with our current economic state. Add to that, Bush administration policies that reward the wealthy while punishing the rest. The trickle-down theory has been debunked!

Bush says economy will bounce back from A-mixed- picture

CHICAGO (CNN) - President Bush acknowledged Monday that economic signals “have become increasingly mixed” in recent weeks, but warned against “aggressive” new regulations in response.

“This economy rests in the hands of the American people, not in the halls of our government,” Bush told members of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce.

The president said he remains optimistic the U.S. economy will survive the current onslaught of a deflating housing market, a related credit crunch and high energy prices because of strong fundamentals. He said small-business growth and consumer spending remain strong, while inflation rates remain low once volatile food and energy prices are factored out.

Using convoluted logic, one might conclude we are indeed to blame. We collectively sat back and watched as this train wreck of an administration took the reins in 2000… and kept them in 2004. Idiocy on our part allowed it to happen. So, we are to blame.
