McCain Sucks Up To Christian Conservatives
Buck February 7th, 2008 - 10:32 amGOP front-runner John McCain, in a bid to prove his conservative credentials, tongue-teased the collective scrotum of the Christian-right on Wednesday.
“I do hope that at some point we would just calm down a little bit and see if there’s areas we can agree on,” McCain said at a news conference in a Phoenix airport hangar before he flew here.
The Rev. Jonathan Falwell, son of the late Rev. Jerry Falwell who made the religious right a political force when he founded the Moral Majority in 1979, disclosed Wednesday that he had a telephone talk with McCain within the past 24 hours. Falwell, who succeeded his father as pastor of Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchville, Va., said he wasn’t ready to endorse a candidate but wanted to hear more from the Arizona senator on the issues.
“I look forward to seeing what McCain’s plan is to unite the party,” Falwell said, “and to see what he has to say in the coming days on the social agenda.” He also expressed interest in hearing more from McCain on national security, the economy, Supreme Court nominees, and “how to protect human life and traditional marriage.” (Emphasis mine)
Unite the party? Just “the party”, Jonathan? Not the whole country? Pitting Americans against fellow Americans… how friggin’ religiously charitable of you!
McCain can have you and your ilk.

A little bit of room for optimism there.
Just a little.

Moral Majority is neither moral or a majority.

That’s an image I didn’t want in my head…

Well kids, I said weeks, if not months, ago it would be McClueless. Obviously he can’t get elected with just support from the conservatives. As TOB pointed out, they are a minority. He’s in the driver’s seat, not the conservatives. McClueless won California soundly where only registered republicans can vote for a republican in the primary, anybody registered as an independent or another party could not vote for him, or any republicans. Granted, California republicans are not as conservative as other locales, but I still think it says alot about his chances in the general election. I think McClueless could defeat the Clintons and could even possibly defeat Obama. For me, Obama’s rhetoric of late has started to go over the top, and he’s setting the bar for himself awfully high IMO. His talking points sound more and more to the left, like Edwards. With Edwards gone he’s obviously trying to get Edwards’ supportors behind him. But just as the far right will have no choice but to vote for McClueless, the far left has no choice but to vote for the democrat, so if Obama is nominated he might be well advised to drift to the center to try to court those independents away from McClueless. There’s no doubt that the party enforcer, Rahm Emanuel, will be in touch with Obama to drive that point home if the need arises. So will it be McClueless/Lieberwitz as I predicted? In the majority of shots I’ve seen recently of McClueless on the boob tube, Lieberwitz has been standing in the background. Or will he choose a conservative to quell the hysteria of the conservative lemmings? It may unite the party but it would probably hurt his chances of getting elected.

Lieberman has claimed he wouldn’t take a VP slot, but back then, McCain wasn’t looking as strong, and it’s not like Lieberman would lose any sleep over changing his stance.

McClueless/Lieberwitz
I’ve been wondering something lately. Why is no one talking Jeb for VP?
Isn’t that all it would take to get the conservatives back in line? (With the added benefit of one more Bush WH in eight years, to boot!)

McCain, I think will stab Lieberman in the back for Huckabee as VP. Jews are fine, but an honest-to-god Downhome Christer who defends the stars and bars?! Fr’ chrissake, its no contest!

I just had another thought. Is it possible the DNC is looking ahead at a possible McCain/LIEberman run, and realized they had no choice but to put Holy Joe in his place now? You know as well as I do that they’d run on a “unity between the parties” platform, which would draw lots of independent votes away from Obama (or Hillary).
If they had waited until after McCain makes an announcement, their hands would be then be tied (sour grapes).
Make sense?
