They tell you one thing, then they tell you another.
I’ve got this neighbor that really pisses me off sometimes. I’ve been thinking lately, what with all this torture talk, that an excellent way to settle his hash was to waterboard him. Bush said it was okay. Hell, you can’t be a good American if you can’t waterboard someone! So I had it all in the works.
Now they’ve done a one-eighty and are saying it’s illegal… Damn it all to hell!
A senior Justice Department official says laws and other limits enacted since three terrorism suspects were waterboarded has eliminated the technique from what is now legally allowed, going a step beyond what CIA Director Michael Hayden has said.
[...]“There has been no determination by the Justice Department that the use of waterboarding, under any circumstances, would be lawful under current law,” [Steven G. Bradbury, acting head of the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel] said. It is the first time the department has expressed such an opinion publicly.
(NOTE: I’m kidding, of course. I love my neighbors.)
