U2 - “Pride (In the Name of Love)”
In honor of one of the best speeches on race I’ve heard in a while, here’s the matching song to MLK. (Performing it is also one of my fondest memories, but that’s another tale.) Oh, and since it was St. Paddy’s Day recently, it’s doubly appropriate. The leprechaun with the mullet’s got some soul, doesn’t he?

Yup, one of my favorites, too. Great rallying song, isn’t it? Gets me wound up!
U2 is awfully fun to play. So, when I sang this one, I had been starting to lose my voice that week, so I was nervous, but we rocked it. I came off stage feeling, “God can strike me down right now and I won’t even care, because I fucking nailed that.” It’s like what I wrote for Nicole Atkins, if you look at her face at the end of that Letterman gig I posted, the one where she absolutely rocked the house  it’s a feeling I hope every performer has had at least once. Especially we bashful types.
