Presidential Priorities

I was flipping through radio channels earlier this morning, and came across a local conservative call-in show. Some caller was ranting about how things have gotten crappy in this country, mainly from how our top politicians don’t seem to care about Americans as much as peoples of other countries. He cited millions of dollars being sent to this, that and other country for whatever reason, but here at home, the economy is in the crapper and people are having to do without. (Mind you, this is a channel that, just a couple short years ago, thought Bush should be made king!)

I have to agree with the caller.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — President Bush is offering a fresh assessment of progress on political, security and economic fronts in Iraq as he weighs a decision on troop levels.

I know Bush has to spend much of his time and attention on warring Iraq. But, haven’t we been subjected to near-Constitutional crisis in recent years (thanks mostly to Bush himself)? Aren’t our ports and borders still wide open? Isn’t our economy near death, lying at the bottom of a ravine?

Many argue that terrorism has to be addressed. Well that’s fine. But doesn’t a sitting president have other duties to attend to? I mean, there will be no point in addressing terrorism once the country has gone under, right?
