Iraqi political groups are meeting in the capital Baghdad for talks aimed at reconciling their differences, but the main Sunni Muslim bloc has decided to boycott the convention.

The National Concord Front, the main Sunni bloc, said its decision to stay away from Tuesday’s meeting was due to it not being invited as a collective group.

“I call upon the political blocs to support national reconciliation because that is the only solution to help Iraqis,” Nouri al-Maliki, Iraq’s prime minister, said at the talks.

The meeting is seen as a chance for factions to discuss laws aimed at promoting harmony between Shia and Sunnis.
