Clinton Slams Democratic Activists At Private Fundraiser

      QuestionGirl     April 18th, 2008 - 10:23 pm

I’m really quite tired of this woman and her bullshit………

Hillary Clinton:
“Moveon.org endorsed [Sen. Barack Obama] — which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down,” Clinton said to a meeting of donors. “We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn’t even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that’s what we’re dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and it’s primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don’t agree with them. They know I don’t agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me.”

Bush chooses SBA chief Steve Preston to take over HUD

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Friday chose SBA Administrator Steve Preston to lead the government’s housing agency at a time of crisis in the industry, praising him as a skilled manager. Democrats hailed Preston as a problem’solver.

If confirmed by the Senate, Preston would replace Housing and Urban Development Secretary Alphonso Jackson, who announced his resignation last month amid a criminal investigation and allegations of political favoritism. Jackson’s last day on the job was Friday and he sat in the Roosevelt Room to hear Bush announce his successor.

Sen. Chris Dodd feels a bit differently:

As our nation faces the biggest housing crisis in recent history, we need a strong leader at the Department of Housing and Urban Development who is dedicated to helping people keep their homes, restoring stability and confidence in the mortgage market, and creating more affordable housing opportunities. These priorities call for a leader with expertise in housing issues, yet the President’s choice has no apparent housing background, which raises questions.

Wall Street gains as investors weigh Citi, Google results

NEW YORK - Wall Street topped off a strong week with a big rally Friday, after results from companies like Citigroup Inc. and Google Inc. helped ease investor anxiety about the health of corporate profits. The major stock indexes at times rose more than 2 percent.

Investors have been worried that recent data indicate a slowing economy, which would cut into profit growth at some of the nation’s biggest companies. But, results so far have shown that earnings, for the most part, are meeting or beating expectations, and the major indexes all posted gains of more than 4 percent for the week.

Citigroup to cut 9,000 jobs after posting loss

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Citigroup Inc (C.N) posted its second straight quarterly loss on Friday, hurt by more than $16 billion of write-downs and costs related to credit losses, and said it will cut another 9,000 jobs.

Though the $5.11 billion first-quarter loss was larger than expected, analysts and investors expressed optimism that the largest U.S. bank and its new chief executive, Vikram Pandit, were taking necessary steps to move past credit problems and drive down costs.

Do you get the feeling that, what matters here is the corporate bottom line, and not much else? That’s the way I’m reading it.

Torture: The Rot Began at the Top

      QuestionGirl     April 18th, 2008 - 11:53 am

The Bush administration has been caught in another lie.

Remember how the president looked earnestly into the television cameras on Oct. 6, 2007, and said, “This government does not torture people.”

While the issue of illegal and inhumane practices towards prisoners erupted into public consciousness following the release of gruesome photos from Abu Ghraib in April 2004, secret memos dating from much earlier reveal that detailed and elaborate discussions on the use of torture were held in the White House by top government officials

Rather than just “a few bad apples,” as those lower military members who were prosecuted for their crimes at Abu Ghraib were labeled, these documents prove the “rot” began at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
