“Call Roger Stone”
by QuestionGirl • 10:08 pm

“Call Roger Stone.”

With those three words, a political juggernaut was set in motion that helped quash a vote recount, and ultimately, change American history.

The directive came from former Secretary of State James Baker, campaign strategist for George W. Bush, and it’s captured in the new HBO movie Recount.

Who better to screen the movie with than the man on the other end of the phone, the Republican operative who got his start in politics with the most famous dirty trickster of them all, Richard Nixon?

”Now listen, people,” Baker tells Bush campaign aides in the movie, after summoning Stone. “This is a street fight for the presidency of the United States.”

U.S. To Build New Prison in Afghanistan
by QuestionGirl • 9:27 pm

Well, we do like prisons here in the U.S. We do like putting people in prison. We have more prisoners in the U.S. then any country in the world. So why not start putting other countries citizens in U.S. run prisons. Hey, and let’s torture them while we’re at it!!

The Pentagon is moving forward with a new prison at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, The New York Times reports.

The planned construction represents a concession by the Bush administration that the United States will be holding prisoners in Afghanistan for years. Previously, officials had said the detention center at Bagram would be closed soon, with its inmates either released or transferred to an Afghan prison built with U.S. aid.

There are 630 prisoners at Bagram, far more than the 270 detainees remaining at Guantanamo, Cuba. They are held in a prison converted from an aircraft hanger with some old Russian military equipment still stored there, the newspaper said.

“Our existing theater internment facility is deteriorating,” Sandra L. Hodgkinson, the senior Defense Department official for detention policy, told the Times. “It was renovated to do a temporary mission. There is a sense that this is the right time to build a new facility.”

“We are disturbed and saddened by the reports we have heard and we are praying for the Barron family.”

That’s great and all… but, is anyone praying for all those 13-year-olds this perv has come into contact with?

Texas minister charged in online sex sting

BlueHerald ImageBRYAN, Texas (AP) – A minister from a Dallas-area Baptist megachurch was caught in an Internet sex sting and charged with online solicitation of a minor, police said Friday.

Undercover officers posing as a 13-year-old girl communicated with Joe Barron, 52, of Plano for about two weeks. The online conversations were sexual in nature, police said.

On May 6, Barron suggested meeting the girl in person. He eventually made the nearly 200-mile drive to Bryan, Texas, on Thursday, when he was arrested. Police said they found a Web-cam and condoms in his car.

Shedding The Shackles Of Our Oppressors
by Buck • 9:23 am

“It was an exhilarating feeling, that’s the best I can describe it.”

Sweet liberty. Mayor Gavin Newsom got a small taste of what it was like for our Founding Fathers when they signed the Declaration of Independence. So did many other Californians.

They say California oftentimes sets the standards on human interaction, and how we treat one another. I hope that’s the case here. To see this new wave of liberty and freedom wash over our great country in my lifetime would be a dream come true.

Same’sex marriage ruling also victory for SF mayor

BlueHerald ImageSAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Hours before the California Supreme Court issued its decision on gay marriage, Mayor Gavin Newsom heard rumblings that the justices would uphold the state’s ban.

He prepared for defeat, knowing his stance on the issue often has been a lonely one since he opened San Francisco City Hall’s doors in 2004 to a same’sex wedding spree, a move that set the stage for Thursday’s historic ruling. The same court had ordered him to stop the nuptials.

So when word came in that the justices had overturned the ban, Newsom sat at his desk, surrounded by his closest aides, looking stunned. The mayor was elated - and vindicated.
