Pounding the Pavement in Miami
by QuestionGirl • 12:29 pm

Yesterday I spent 4 hours pounding the pavement in the Miami area for Obama, in a predominately Cuban neighborhood. In houses where there are two generations, the parents seem to be holding steady for the Republicans while the grown kids are going Democrat. One kid told me his Dad sees Obama as a communist and there’s no changing his mind. In some homes, the males were sticking with McCain while the females, much to the husband’s chagrin, felt very strongly about supporting Obama. Not one single person said the word “McCain.” Even if they were voting for him, they couldn’t bring themselves to say his name. Weird. Many people plan on voting early. Early voting begins on October 20th and runs through November 2nd here in Florida. The McCain office here……the lights are on but nobody’s home. They aren’t here, they aren’t out on the street. There’s basically no presence in the area. I was taken by the number of foreclosed homes. It’s really shocking when you walk the neighborhoods and see how many there are. Very sad. The only other thing I can add is that there are ALOT of dogs out there. I’ll be out there again a few times this week and then next weekend. 24 days to go, and I’m not going down without a fight. Wherever you are, if you have a couple hours here or there, I’d suggest you call or stop by the local Obama office and do what you can. It’s a great organization. Well organized and very positive. In sharp contrast to the McCain folks, Obama encourages his workers and volunteers to be respectful and keep it positive. The message is that of what Obama will do for the country, not what John Mccain won’t. Sarah Palin and the Republicans who laughed at Obama’s community organizer experience will rue the day. This organization has got it together…….community organizer style.
