Blogroll Amnesty Day, 2009

by Batocchio • Saturday, January 31st, 2009 - 5:58 pm

Blogroll Amnesty Day

It is time once more to observe Blogroll Amnesty Day, a celebration starting today and going through Tuesday, February 3rd – typical liberal excess. Thanks to skippy, Jon Swift and Blue “2000th Post” Gal for spearheading this once again, to skippy for the graphic, and to all bloggers who make a habit of linking more than the usual suspects (take a bow, Mike Finnigan).

Backtrack through the above links for the background on this event, or head over to Shamanaqua for an entertaining, fantasy-themed retelling. Last year’s post here went with a “gigantic mutant lizards breathing nuclear flame” theme. And that gives me an excuse to re-run this graphic from one of those pesky blog meme posts:

An Ounce Of Prevention…

by Buck • Saturday, January 31st, 2009 - 10:35 am

According to popular search engine, Google, visiting Sarah Palin’s web site may harm your computer! Check out this screen grab:

Actually, this is just a bit of humor on my part. Google obviously was going through some settings problems today and was listing all searches as being harmful.

New RNC Chairman, Michael Steele: Breath Of Fresh Air Or Blowhard?

by Buck • Saturday, January 31st, 2009 - 9:38 am

I’d say blowhard. He couldn’t really think that his fellow republicans would seriously embrace anyone other than who they themselves are… right? We all know who “they” are, don’t we? But you have to give the RNC an “A+” for marketing.

I wonder if some left-leaning political pundit will go on national radio and sing “Michael, The Magic Negro”? Probably not. There would be an avalanche of outrage pour forth from the party of two-faced.

Mr. Steele, good luck in your endeavors. You may be able to fool some people into thinking the party will change. Lord knows you don’t have to look much further than the past eight years to see that America has more than it’s fair share of fools.

Michael Steele becomes first black RNC chairman

BlueHerald ImageWASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican Party chose the first black national chairman in its history Friday, just shy of three months after the nation elected a Democrat as the first African-American president. The choice marked no less than “the dawn of a new party,” declared the new GOP chairman, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele. Republicans chose Steele over four other candidates, including former President George W. Bush’s hand-picked GOP chief, who bowed out declaring, “Obviously the winds of change are blowing.” [...]

He vowed to expand the reach of the party by competing for every group, everywhere.

“We’re going to say to friend and foe alike: ‘We want you to be a part of us, we want you to with be with us.’ And for those who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over,” Steele said.

“There is not one inch of ground that we’re going to cede to anybody,” he added.

“This is the dawn of a new party moving in a new direction with strength and conviction.”

Are Alaskans Being Shortchanged?

by Buck • Saturday, January 31st, 2009 - 8:50 am

With no acting Governor in sight, you betcha they’re being shortchanged! Alaskans elected Sarah Palin to office on good faith (we assume so much, anyways), and deserve better than someone who spends her time forming political action committees, plotting out another run for the big prize, while ignoring the duties in which she was elected.

If she can crap all over Alaska as Governor, imagine what kind of president she would make. But, as we’ve seen in the past, crap can be wrapped in a blanket of pro-life, pro-God, pro-gun & pro-hate… and still manage to be elected to the highest office.

Alaska lawmakers question Sarah Palin’s focus

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Driving home at night from her Capitol office, the leader of Alaska’s House Democrats often passes the governor’s white-columned mansion and wonders why more lights aren’t on.

Rep. Beth Kerttula assumes Gov. Sarah Palin is out of town, though Palin’s staffers say so far their boss has been there for most of the legislative session that began Jan. 20.

It’s a small matter, but it’s part of the buzz around the Capitol among lawmakers who are seeing less of their governor than in years past and wondering what it means in the wake of a Republican vice presidential run that brought Palin global fame and notoriety.

They’re accustomed to spotting her striding past, using two BlackBerries, stopping to chat in the hallway or inviting reporters into her office while she prepares for a speech.

Let me just say that Keith Olbermann should of had his own show on Worst Show in the World. I know he’s happy to be in Tampa for the Superbowl, and that he started as a sports broadcaster, but I couldn’t even listen to his show tonight with all the background noise in the bar or wherever he was broadcasting from. Worst Countdown Ever.

Mitch McConnell: GOP Future In Danger

by Buck • Friday, January 30th, 2009 - 7:47 am

And he’s right. Pretending to care for the gun nuts and the religious crowd, when clearly it’s only the wealthy they’ll truly ever cater to… not to mention heeding advice from supreme “dildohead” Rush Limbaugh… the imploding republican party may never recover.

A dieing republican party may sound warm and fuzzy, but you can bet they’ll take as much of America as they can with them when they go under. It’s all about party with these folks.

McConnell warns of grim GOP future

BlueHerald Image(CNN) – Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell painted a downright dismal view of the state of his party Thursday afternoon, telling Republican National Committee members the GOP is in grave danger of being marginalized to a regional party.

“We’re all concerned about the fact that the very wealthy and the very poor, the most and least educated, and a majority of minority voters, seem to have more or less stopped paying attention to us,” the Kentucky Republican said on the second day of the four-day gathering.

“And we should be concerned that, as a result of all this, the Republican Party seems to be slipping into a position of being more of a regional party than a national one.

“In politics there’s a name for a regional party, it’s called a minority party,” said McConnell.

Bajofondo y Julieta Venegas – “Pa’ bailar”

There are crisper versions of the video out there featuring the instrumental version, but I like Julieta Venegas’ vocal. Bajofondo member Gustavo A. Santaolalla has also put together some great film soundtracks and scores, winning Osars for his fine work on Brokeback Mountain and Babel. (Thanks to Buck for the video assist.)
