New RNC Chairman, Michael Steele: Breath Of Fresh Air Or Blowhard?

by Buck • Saturday, January 31st, 2009 - 9:38 am

I’d say blowhard. He couldn’t really think that his fellow republicans would seriously embrace anyone other than who they themselves are… right? We all know who “they” are, don’t we? But you have to give the RNC an “A+” for marketing.

I wonder if some left-leaning political pundit will go on national radio and sing “Michael, The Magic Negro”? Probably not. There would be an avalanche of outrage pour forth from the party of two-faced.

Mr. Steele, good luck in your endeavors. You may be able to fool some people into thinking the party will change. Lord knows you don’t have to look much further than the past eight years to see that America has more than it’s fair share of fools.

Michael Steele becomes first black RNC chairman

BlueHerald ImageWASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican Party chose the first black national chairman in its history Friday, just shy of three months after the nation elected a Democrat as the first African-American president. The choice marked no less than “the dawn of a new party,” declared the new GOP chairman, former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele. Republicans chose Steele over four other candidates, including former President George W. Bush’s hand-picked GOP chief, who bowed out declaring, “Obviously the winds of change are blowing.” [...]

He vowed to expand the reach of the party by competing for every group, everywhere.

“We’re going to say to friend and foe alike: ‘We want you to be a part of us, we want you to with be with us.’ And for those who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over,” Steele said.

“There is not one inch of ground that we’re going to cede to anybody,” he added.

“This is the dawn of a new party moving in a new direction with strength and conviction.”

This is such transparent tokenism. It's really obvious and it looks terrible. The RNC is desperate, and they look it!

Well, if ends crap like "Barack the Magic Negro," the GOP might finally start to move into the 21st Century...

A guest on Rachel Maddow described it perfectly last night. Obama is Superman. How do you destroy Superman? With Kryptonite. They went to planet Blackman to get Krptonite.

Traditionally the RNC chair hasn't wielded much political power within the Party, it's function has been mainly limited to organizing fundraisers, networking, and administering the Party's funds, rarely dabbling in policy matters. It has apparently now adopted a PR/marketing function that may or may not last beyond this announcement. IIRC, it has more than once attracted someone who ends up lining their pockets(embezzling) the very funds they help raise and administer. I mean come on, it is a Republican after all.
