RE: Gary Schneeberger Schneeberger is an old Ashkenazim (German Jewish) Name . The Schneeberger Jews have been in Europe from early Roman times. Many Ashkenazim Schneeberger Jews were forced to convert to Christianity in the mid 1500's. Some fled toward more religiously lax countries where the Schneeberger name went through linguistic alterations to fit the host society. Others feigned conversion at first, but after a few generations naturally assimilated into Christianity. And some converted to Christianity wholeheartedly. Many of the Schneeberger's that are still left in Germany, Austria and Switzerland are still Christians. The majority are not even aware of their original Jewish roots. The largest concentration of Schneeberger's is in Schwandorf, Germany.
