Carrying Religion A Bit Too Far
by Buck • Sunday, June 21st, 2009 - 5:22 pmA very stupid story. A woman in an apartment, a building owned by someone else, thinks she has some God-given right to keep Easter decorations up as long as she chooses. And she has an attorney willing to argue that point. Can you say “frivolous”?
Any lawyer who goes before a court of law to argue that anything Godly trumps all other law should be disbarred. The woman signed a contract that requires her to keep her living area “clean”. A door cluttered with Easter images, especially when it’s not even Easter, is not a “clean” door. Besides, dragging religion into the argument will only serve to belittle it.

BOULDER, Colo., June 21 (UPI) — An attorney for a 59-year-old woman says his client should not be forced to leave her apartment in Boulder County, Colo., because of Easter decorations.
Attorney John Pineau, who is representing Carol Burdick, said his client’s decision to keep Easter decorations on her apartment door 15 days after the holiday ended should be protected as a “religious statement,” Boulder’s Daily Camera reported Saturday.
“You can’t evict somebody for Easter bunny decorations,” Pineau said. “An Easter decoration is a religious statement and should be protected — even if it is just bunnies.”
Pineau said his client was informed by her landlord several days after Easter that her door decorations, which included Peep marshmallow candies and bunny stickers, needed to be removed.
After Burdick refused, apartment managers posted a notice outlining a lease provision mandating residents keep their living areas clean and sanitary, the attorney said.

What do peeps candies have to with religious expression?
I would be thrilled with the apartment managers if they evicted the grown ass woman just for strapping candy to the door. Truly an epic struggle for religious freedom.
