Journalism In America Is Dead

But hypocrisy sure isn’t…

Fox caught with its pants down on ABC attacks

As Think Progress noted, despite Fox’s whining about ABC’s upcoming special on health care reform which will include a town hall conducted in the White House, it turns out that when George W. Bush was President, Fox did exactly what they are accusing ABC of.

Here’s a video mashup of what Fox is saying now — and what it reported then, including footage from its fawning specials on both Bush and Cheney.

Can't wait for "you know who" to stop by and argue that there's no hypocrisy here.

This attack is one of the most transparently stupid they've ever made. Do they really think that people can't remember exclusive interviews and fluff pieces, at the White House and elsewhere, with Bush and other presidents?

Ok, I don't want to disappoint you Buck so here I go. I think there is hypocrisy here to a point. I don't really care that President Obama is using ABC to try to sell his health care. What I do have a problem with is that ABC won't let the other side give their opinion. If it were FOXNEWS, I would expect FOXNEWS to do give a counterpoint segment. To me that's real journalism, giving you ALL the information so YOU can make your own decision. Hopefully you don't disagree with that!

  4. Buck Says:

O'LiellyRay, I really DO believe that YOU are full of shit. Counterpoint? On Fox? Oh, you mean the counterpoints that occur just before Bill O'Lielly turns his guest's microphone off. Is that what you mean?

You are aware that Fox argued, in court, that their "fair and balanced" is just an advertising slogan and nothing more, right?

In your mind, you really do believe that Fox is fair and balanced. I don't doubt that a bit. A million people could tell you you're wrong, and you will continue to disagree. Why so many people believe that, while so many others don't, has me flabbergasted. The only thing I can make of it is Fox viewers are glued to the network like members of the Peoples Temple were glued to Jim Jones. But the only way the attraction can work is that the viewer must already be fairly right-leaning.

I've never known any network to have a political bias. I never really cared. That is, until Fox came along. I still don't see any of the other networks as having any specific leanings. But I would imagine any devout Fox viewer, used to the right swing of the network, would see a neutral channel as leaning left. Kind of like the way a person living in Canada and a person living in south-Florida would have different ideas as to what the word "cold" means.

Fox is a right-wing network. Even Fox admits that. But calling all the other networks liberal is about as stupid as a person can get. MSNBC has three hours of Morning Joe every morning. Yep, that's liberal alright!

    Give me a break.

  6. Batocchio Says:

Ray, do you realize the difference between an interview and a televised adress to the nation?

Apparently you, Karl Rove and the Fox News crew all think you can judge the quality of an interview before you see it. You're not even making predictions, you're condemning the format, despite the glaring hypocrisy of such condemnations. It's not as if you'll find many corporate media fans here, but critiquing the interview is a little bit more sensible after, y'know, it's actually occurred. Since Fox gave such tongue baths to Bush, as Rove knows all too well, perhaps they just assume ABC will do the same –and/or they're doing their usual propaganda. But what's your excuse for parroting them?

  7. chicher Says:

C'mon Ray, Tell Bat how he is not getting what you're saying at all and then slightly change your tack just enough to say that your side just isn't getting treated fairly and that somehow the conservative message is being blocked by the liberal ramrods. Don't let me down, now. I know you just want this to be fair and balanced. I do too. Every democrat story remotely positive should be followed by a republican one. I think if they show a white guy in an interview, they need to follow up with a black dude. Lesbian? right back at ya with smokin' hottie...unless the lesbians hot, too. I'd have to work that out...wait, what are we talking about?

Unbelievable, You don't see other networks to have a political bias expect FOXNEWS. Totally Amazing, I don't know what to say. It's funny you mention Jim Jones, just the other day, I compared his followers to Obama's, following him blindly. Evidently, that blindness prevents you from seeing the bias on the other networks. I know there is bias on the FOXNEWS network and I am willing to admit that. That's ONE channel (Cable Channel) that not everyone sees. Then there is ABC, CBS and NBC that everyone that has a TV can see. And you are saying they aren't biased. Amazing. Where do I get a pair of those rose colored glassed?

  10. Buck Says:

I wanna be a Pollyanna. I don't wanna look at the world through rose colored glasses, I want the world to BE rose colored. I want people to be nice. People SHOULD be nice. Nice should be the norm. I hate it that I can't trust anyone! I hate it that I can't put my daughter on the front lawn by herself! I hate it that I have to lock my car, and that I have to worry about an alarm system in my house, and I can't send cash in the mail! That's not the way it's supposed to be, Ray! I liked being a Pollyanna, I WANT to be a Pollyanna!

  11. Buck Says:

No, Ray. What I AM saying is, since you are so used to the extreme right-leaning FOX channel, ANYTHING ever so slightly left of it would appear all-out super-duper left-wing socialism fringe to you.

Funny. That's pretty much how most FOX viewers describe other channels.

It is you, Ray, that is wearing the blinders. You just can't see it. And like a three-year-old screaming for more candy, you'll argue how right you are and how wrong everyone else is until you're blue red in the face.

Go ahead and continue making a great big fool out of yourself. Lord knows I can't stop you.
