Cafferty:”There’s no excuse for that. She’s supposed to know a little bit of this. Don’t make excuses for her, that’s pathetic.”

Oh man…… terrible news. My sympathies to Jack and his family. RIP Carol Cafferty.

Jack Cafferty isn’t here today for the Cafferty File because of some tragic news.

His wife of 35 years, Carol, passed away unexpectedly this morning. Carol was everything to Jack. The dedication of his book reads, “for Carol, my wife, my life.”

Jack wrote about how she was the inspiration for him to get sober and straighten up his life: “In all the years that we’ve been married, she has always brought to the table her unshakable grounding in something a lot more real than being on television or being recognized in the corner drugstore. She has been my rock, having done a magnificent job of keeping me from getting full of helium and drifting off the surface of the earth… She was all the incentive I needed to make painful but transforming changes – to get sober and stop smoking. I knew that I’d lose her if I didn’t. She’s an amazing woman who simply wasn’t worth losing.”

One story Jack loves to tell is how he and Carol met – when he was a local news anchor in Kansas City. They started to meet regularly for a quick meal between his shows and became good friends. Whenever Jack had to leave, his exit line was “We’d better wrap this up. Got to get back to the station.” One night Carol finally asked, “What kind of a gas station do you work at? You’re always wearing a tie.”

Jack explained it was a television station. He loved the fact that she had no clue and couldn’t care less that he had been on air there every night for four years. He later described that as one of his life’s “twenty-four-carat moments” that made his heart soar. He said to himself then that he might marry her because “it can’t get any more honest and pure than that.”

Our deepest sympathies go out to Jack and to their two daughters, Leslie and Leigh. Our thoughts are also with Jack’s other two daughters, Julie and Jill, and his grandchildren.

Jack Cafferty’s fans want more.

More face time. GiveCaffertyAShow.com says the CNN ‘Cafferty File’ commentator deserves his own weekday newscast.

What is it about Cafferty that attracts a following? “I think people sense a certain honesty about me, that maybe I’m not a phony,” Cafferty says. “And television is full of phonies.”

For now, though, no newscast. Fans will have to settle for some printed word.

Cafferty’s new book, “It’s Getting Ugly Out There: The Frauds, Bunglers, Liars, and Losers Who Are Hurting America” (out today), is kind of a long-form version of his The Situation Room shout-outs on public figures and issues.

It’s also a rare glimpse into the author’s private life. Cafferty remembers thinking, “If I’m going to do this, I might as well do a book that has some substance. My background is different than the average person’s.”

His background shaped his perspective. “My tendency is to question authority and to make up my own mind.” Those opinions stir his loyal viewers, who write emails in droves. He reads some of them on-air. “It’s an interesting way to make a living,” he says.

Making a living is critical to Jack Cafferty, whose parents weren’t able to do so consistently. They were, instead, consumed by alcoholism, depression, and divorce.

As a result, Cafferty has always considered his successful career - which has included prominent anchor jobs in local New York news and on CNNfn - essentially a way to provide for his wife and four daughters. “It’s the way I make my living,” he often told his children. “This is no different than your friend’s father who’s an electrician or a doctor.”

Congressman Jack Murtha went to Iraq and found the Private Mercenaries that are being paid huge amounts of money for things our regular Army used to do are running wild. Murtha is looking forward to holding hearings to find out the truth about the Privagte Mercenaries in Iraq. OH- the biggest mercenary corporation of course is run and owned by a huge Bush supporter who is a multi millionaire. What a coincidence!
