Video: Dennis Kucinich bailout speech on the floor of the house 10/02/08
There are many reasons this bill bothers me. The problem is, I, like most Americans and most the people in congress, don’t have a clue what’s right, what’s not right as far as fixing this disaster. I have the utmost respect for this guy. If he says it’s bullshit, I have to believe he’s telling the truth. I don’t know if this bill will actually help anything. I only hope it helps keep every day people from losing any more of their retirement funds….. small and mid size businesses keeping afloat……keeping people from losing their jobs. Will it do that? I guess time will tell.

From RGJ.com via Crooks & Liars:
A Nevada judge says Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich must be included in Tuesday’s candidates- debate in Nevada.
Senior Clark County District Court Judge Charles Thompson says if Kucinich is excluded, he-ll issue an injunction stopping the televised debate.
The judge sided with a lawyer for the Ohio congressman, who says debate host MSNBC at first invited Kucinich to take part and then told him last week he couldn-t.
A lawyer for the network says MSNBC decided to go with the top three candidates after the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries.
The judge calls it a matter of fairness and says Nevada voters will benefit if they hear from more than just Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards.
The cable network and the Democratic Party are calling the 6 p.m. PST debate a chance to hear issues from Nevada’s minority communities. Tim Russert and Brian Williams are moderating.

Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich’s push to initiate impeachment hearings against Vice President Richard B. Cheney received a significant boost today when three of his Democratic Congressional colleagues, all members of the House Judiciary Committee, endorsed Kucinichs call for action.
In a joint public announcement today, Representatives Robert Wexler, Luis Gutierrez, and Tammy Baldwin said, The charges are too serious to ignore. There is credible evidence that the Vice President abused the power of his office, and not only brought us into an unnecessary war but violated the civil liberties and privacy of American citizens. It is the constitutional duty of Congress to hold impeachment hearings.
Kucinich is the only Democratic Presidential candidate who has called for impeachment proceedings. The other candidates have either dodged the issue or deferred to the comments of the Democratic Congressional leadership that the impeachment issue is off the table.
I appreciate the support of my good friends in this effort to hold our highest elected officials accountable, under the Constitution of the United States of America, for their violations and abuses of their sworn oaths to the Constitution and to the people of this nation, Kucinich said. With the continuing drumbeat from the Administration toward a possible war with Iran, the need for hearings is more urgent than ever.
Kucinich introduced the impeachment resolution on April 24, 2007; and, last month, brought it to the floor of the House, where members voted to refer it to the Judiciary Committee for further consideration. The call to action by three Democratic members of that Committee might help move it out of the hopper and onto the calendar.
Kucinich will be campaigning in New Hampshire this weekend.

From Raw Story:
Largely ignored by the mainstream media, a dark-horse Democratic presidential candidate has decided to create his own coverage with a new online TV station set to launch Wednesday.
While the media seems more focused on Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s alien encounters than his universal healthcare proposal or warnings about the march to war with Iran, the feisty Ohio Democrat is using the Internet to side’step the normal gatekeepers of presidential campaign coverage. KucinichTV will feature a live town hall meeting at 9 p.m. Wednesday as part of a series of broadcasts planned for the next 10 weeks, the campaign says.

BREAKING:
[VP Dick Cheney] purposely altered intelligence gathering to justify the use of the Armed Forces in Iraq in a manner damaging to national security. The vice president also is accused of using the intelligence process to deceive citizens and Congress about the tie between Iraq and Al Qaeda in a manner damaging to the United States.
-2008 presidential candidate, Rep. Dennis Kucinich
Kucinich made a procedural maneuver to bring up his resolution on impeachment articles against Vice President Dick Cheney moments ago. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer tried to kill the resolution. But republicans, who at first also wanted to kill the resolution, changed tactics and began voting against Hoyer. Hoyer’s motion lost on a 162-251 vote.
Something about this smells funny. Top democrats voted against the articles of impeachment, while republicans voted for it. Why? Am I missing something?
From the article:
Bringing a vote on the impeachment resolution would put Democrats on record over impeachment, a move that Republicans see as a political advantage in a year that has been marked by little progress in a Democrat-led Congress, even as they vowed to rise above partisanship.

from an email this morning…
Remembering 9/11
Let us on this day mourn for those who tragically lost their lives on 9/11. And let us commit that their lives not be lost in vain, but become the basis for a new America of peace and justice. America must regain the moral high ground in our efforts to recover from 9/11.
Let us not forget the world was with America in our sorrow on September 11, 2001. The world was prepared to unite with America in a cooperative effort to challenge terrorists who attempt to disrupt civil society. Instead, the Administration used 9/11 as an excuse to attack a nation that did not attack us. Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, or with Al Qaeda’s role in 9/11. Iraq did not have the intention or the capability of attacking the United States. Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction. Yet the Administration deliberately and falsely conflated 9/11 with Iraq, with the cooperation of an unquestioning media.
As a result, nearly 4,000 of our brave soldiers have lost their lives, and tens of thousands have been permanently injured in combat in Iraq. The subsequent occupation has fueled the insurgency and will continue to result in more troop losses until the United States leaves. Also, nearly one million innocent Iraqis have lost their lives as a result of this war. This violence against an innocent people is a tragedy of immense proportions. It is also a violation of international law, and those who authored this war must be held accountable for their actions.
Americans will spend close to $2 trillion in Iraq by the time the costs of this war are totaled, but the longer term costs have included the undermining America’s moral authority in the world, the separation of America from the nations and the peoples of the world, and the destruction of a domestic agenda which is being deferred while we borrow money from China to fight the war in Baghdad.
We need to call those who used 9/11 to take us into war against Iraq to an accounting under the U.S. Constitution, U.S. law, and international law. We must soon begin a period of truth and reconciliation in our own nation. We must have forums of open dialogue throughout the country where we can come together to remember who we were before 9/11, to share our personal narratives of the times when we felt most secure, most in love with our nation, most trustful of our democratic institutions. We must recover our capacity for civic action. We must reclaim our nation. The only way we can do that is to tell the truth.

From Youtuber Heathr234 (thanks for all the great videos!):
After spending a week in the Middle East, Dennis Kucinich comes on Carlson’s show to talk about what happened on his tour. Weenie ex-bow tie boy Tucker Carlson tries to paint Dennis Kucinich into a corner and say that he hates America with his loaded questions to him, but Kucinich doesn’t let him get away with it. It’s no wonder Carlson’s ratings are in the dumps. Ask MSNBC to replace him. If they didn’t have their heads up their rears they’d be giving Ron Reagan, David Shuster, or Rachel Maddow a show instead of Carlson and somewhere around Keith’s show to keep their audience. They’re obviously not really worried about ratings since they have not chose to fill the progressive news gap that exists in the media today with the exception of Olbermann’s show.

The Progressive Magazine
Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel continue to get the shaft from the mainstream media.
It’s as if these two genuine peace candidates aren-t even in the race the way they are neglected.
They can win debates, but the next day in the news coverage they barely get a mention.
And when the topic of Iraq comes up, their views get short shrift.
Case in point: Last Sunday’s New York Times.
The lead story on the front page of the Times was headlined “Democratic Field Says Leaving Iraq May Take Years.”
Well, that’s not what the whole field says.
Oh, the Times did say there was an exception: A subhed read: “With One Exception, Even Critics of War Plan Gradual Exit.”
And who was that one exception? Bill Richardson of New Mexico.
The article, which went on for two dozen paragraphs, never even mentioned Gravel’s name or Kucinich’s name, the two Democratic candidates who have been the most outspoken all along on the Iraq War.
Anyone reading the story wouldn-t even have known that Gravel or Kucinich was in the race, or if you did, you-d have to assume that they had changed their minds on pulling out of Iraq. Which they haven-t.
Not only is this a prime case of inaccurate reporting.
It’s also a perfect exhibit of how the leading media outlets in this country take it upon themselves to narrow the field before the voters have a chance to cast their ballots.
