And now, for something a little different…
Man Passes Gas, Charged with Battery on Officer
SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) — As if getting a DUI wasn’t enough, a man arrested for driving under the influence got in a lot more trouble at the police station.
Police stopped Jose Cruz on Route 60 in South Charleston Monday night for driving with his headlights off.
Then, he failed sobriety tests and was arrested.
When police were trying to get fingerprints, police say Cruz moved closer to the officer and passed gas on him. The investigating officer remarked in the criminal complaint that the odor was very strong.
Cruz is now charged with battery on a police officer, as well as DUI and obstruction.
This is so sad:
Prairie Dogs To Be Killed For Church Parking Lot
A Littleton church’s plans to expand could mean the death of dozens of prairie dogs.
Last week, mounds of dirt were dumped in the field behind the Rock of the Southwest Church in preparation for plans to build a temporary parking lot. The dirt now fills the holes of several prairie dogs‘ homes and many fear several of the animals are already dead. [...]
[Tim Price, the church's director of administration] said if a piece of land is not found soon they will be forced to “humanely euthanize” the animals.
“The congregation would much rather have found a better solution … but we’re more committed to the youth of the community and building the youth center than the prairie dogs,” said Price.
I really don’t know how to feel about this one. The officer did suffer minor injury, so obviously Banger rammed him pretty hard… But, then again, Banger’s very life hung in the balance.
If one of the points of punishment is to dissuade that type of behavior, I don’t think this really qualifies. How often are you being robbed, and a police officer is within sight?
I think they should leave Mr. Banger alone here.
NC motorist avoids being robbed by hitting police
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — A Winston-Salem man was nearly robbed before he got the attention of a police officer — by ramming his car.
The incident happened about 4 p.m. Thursday when 34-year-old Melvin Banger agreed to give two men a ride. Police told the Winston-Salem Journal one man put a gun to Banger’s head and demanded money.
When Banger saw a police cruiser at an intersection, he ran the red light and hit the cruiser. Authorities said his passengers got out and ran.
Officer J.C. Smith suffered minor injuries, and Banger wasn’t hurt.
Police Lt. David Perry said Friday the district attorney will determine if Banger faces charges. A police spokesman said Friday that neither passenger has been found.
Here’s a story guaranteed to enrage:
Wrongful Euthanization?
A heartbroken dog owner wants answers after she says her pet was put to sleep without her permission.
Edwina Lambert says animal control officers on the Cherokee Indian Reservation took her dog right out of her front yard. By the time she got home from work and noticed the dog was missing, she says 14-year-old Sadie had already been euthanized.
In Cherokee, animal control officers can legally put down a pet if they think its in pain and can’t get in touch with its owner. But Edwina says her contact information was on the dog’s collar.
Tribal leaders have ordered a full investigation into the incident to determine exactly what happened.
If the right ever need proof that God was a republican, than this should do it for them:
North Dakota’s real-life Jed Clampett
STANLEY, North Dakota (CNN) — Herb Geving unleashes a broad smile in his 11,000-square-foot mansion. The former cattleman, farmer and owner of a North Dakota garbage business is now retired, able to count the dollar signs brought in by three oil wells.
“Oil,” he says, “it’s amazing. You don’t have to work at all. You just walk to the mailbox and there it is.”
I wonder how much will end up going to McCain’s campaign?

I’ve always heard Starbucks coffee was real good, but this is ridiculous…
Daytona Beach cop fired for demanding free coffee
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - An internal affairs report says a Daytona Beach police officer demanded free coffee and tea from a Starbucks and threatened employees with slower emergency response times if they refused. [...]
The coffeehouse’s employees claim that since June 2007, Garvin had visited the store as many as six times a night while on duty. Besides demanding free drinks, workers complained that Garvin also cut in front of paying customers.

Mass. officer’s gun goes off during safety class
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) — A firearms instructor in southern Massachusetts has been assigned to other duties after his gun accidentally went off while he was teaching a class on weapons safety. Officials say the Glock handgun discharged while Maj. Donald Lamar was demonstrating to Bristol County deputy sheriffs how to safely holster the weapon.
The bullet ripped a hole in Lamar’s pants but missed his leg and foot.
Sheriff Thomas Hodgson says the officer made a “gross error in judgment” by not emptying the weapon before the class last week.

Colo. Man Accused of Posing As Veteran
NEW CASTLE, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado man is accused of stealing an Army veteran’s identity and using it for 24 years to get married, obtain free medical treatment and even serve as president of a VFW post.
Mark Mulcahy, 46, faces felony charges of identity theft, forgery and criminal impersonation. He was being held in the Garfield County jail Friday in lieu of $45,000 bail. It wasn’t known whether he had an attorney.
Mulcahy obtained a military retirement document in 1984 in the name of David Keith Anderson of Modesto, Calif., according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Anderson, also known as David Ronayne, died in a bicycle accident in 2006, the affidavit says.

For lack of a bathroom, I’d have no problem with having these on hand. But to be forced to use them? I don’t think so…
Union: Workers Told to Use Urine Bags
DENVER (AP) — Union officials in Colorado say a Qwest supervisor tried to cut down on lengthy bathroom breaks by telling workmen to use disposable urinal bags in the field.
The manager distributed the bags to 25 male field technicians, telling them not to waste time leaving a job site to search for a public bathroom, the Rocky Mountain News reported Thursday.
“We deal with a lot of silliness in corporate America, but you’ve got to admit, it takes the freakin’ cake,” Reed Roberts, an administrative director at the Communications Workers of America District 7, told the newspaper.

- “Supermarkets and shops fined if they let men and women use the same lines at checkout counters.”

Pretty good stuff!
5. Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid
Charges: Graduates of the Neville Chamberlain school of appeasement, the Democratic leadership continues to ignore the constitution-and the American people-by keeping impeachment “off the table” and refusing to defund the war. True pushovers, they’re too stupid, cowardly, weak and outmatched politically to accomplish anything substantive, their “strategy” essentially boiling down to whining a lot while handing Bush whatever the hell he wants. There is just no way that appearing this weak and ineffectual could be any better for them politically than impeachment. Everything that the White House gets away with, it gets away with because congress allows it.
Exhibit A: Failure to woo the two thirds majority needed to override a presidential veto is moot: They could defund the war with a 41’senator budgetary filibuster. But that would take guts and conviction.
Sentence: 2 cups anthrax bisque.

Texas residential sex club ban roils swingers
Neighbors complained after home transformed into A-The Cherry Pit-
DUNCANVILLE, Texas - The most popular address on Cedar Ridge Drive is Jim Trulock’s split-level home, which has a group sex room and attracts as many as 100 people to swinger parties featuring “Naked Twister” nights.
But the festivities could soon be over. In response to neighbors- complaints, the city has outlawed sex clubs in residential areas. Citations have been issued, and search warrants may be next.
“It’s crazy that they want to force their morality down our throats,” said Dawn Burton, 45, a regular guest at the parties. “We-re all frustrated.”
