I’ll Drink To That!

Kevin Drum:

QUOTE OF THE DAY….From Samuel Popkin, political science professor at UC San Diego, on potential problems with Cindy McCain’s business activities:

“You can’t run a beer company out of the White House.”

Oh, I don’t know about that. Considering what’s been going on there over the past seven years, I’d say that running a beer company out of the White House might raise its moral tone a bit.

Right you are, Kevin!

What continues to surprise me is the religious-right crowd. In my neck of the woods, alcohol consumption is a no-no. It’s very “un-Godly”, you know. And if you travel across the state line to drink, you’re shunned. Even by family! Yet these very same people will gladly install Cindy McCain, purveyor of the sinful ale, into the White House.

Imagine the uproar if Michelle Obama had owned such a business.

Question: What will Hillary do now?

Response: She-ll keep going on the road to the White House, where she-ll meet the nation’s first black president.

The only way I can win the presidency is if you decide that this election is bigger than flag pins… or the comments of a former pastor.

-Barack Obama
America needs a president who isn’t disconnected, living in an ivory tower.

-Hillary Clinton

Both quotes are honest and commendable. Especially with Hillary taking that small jab at herself.

Bush is trying to tie $770 million in food aid to his $70 billion Iraq war funding measure.

“In some of the world’s poorest nations, rising prices can mean the difference between getting a daily meal and going without food,” Bush said. “The American people are generous people and they’re a compassionate people. We believe in the timeless truth `to whom much is given, much is expected.’”
(emphasis mine)

With the exception of taxation, of course…

America [is] committing suicide while Asian, African, and Latin American children come to inherit the estate.

-Pat Buchanan, MSNBC political analyst

Work that crowd, Pat! Your finger-pointing helps people like me forget how you and your kind have spent a life-time selling the rest of us Americans down the river.
