Rudy, Rudy, Rudy

Remember Goober (George Lindsey) of “The Andy Griffith Show” fame? Remember his Cary Grant impression, “Judy, Judy, Judy”? Is where I came up with this post’s title.

I don’t know why Rudy Giuliani came to mind. I don’t know exactly why I’ve tied those two things together. Funny how the mind works sometimes.

In a totally unrelated story:

Mob Tied to Big NYC Construction Jobs

NEW YORK (AP) — The trucks that rolled into Staten Island left more than dirt at the site of a new NASCAR racetrack. They also brought cash for the Gambino crime family, prosecutors say.

It was all part of the cost of doing business at construction sites around the area that prosecutors say were rampant with mob corruption.

The shakedowns were outlined in a sweeping indictment this week that led to the arrests of dozens of mobsters on charges including murder, gambling, drug dealing and credit-card fraud. It was one of the largest mob crackdowns in recent memory.

It’s The Economy, Stupid!

The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.

-2008 presidential contender, John McCain

And this from the AP:

The economy nearly stalled in the fourth quarter with a growth rate of just 0.6 percent, capping its worst year since 2002.

The Commerce Department’s report on the gross domestic product, released Wednesday, showed an economy that had deteriorated considerably during the October-to-December quarter as worsening problems in the housing market and harder-to-get credit made individuals and businesses more cautious in their spending. Fears of a recession have grown.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s official.. Stupidity permeates our electorate.

Following a poor showing in Florida, John Edwards is expected to drop out of the race today.

Rudy Giuliani

YEAH!

Following a poor showing in Florida, Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out of the race today.

Giuliani: Definitely, Yes… Maybe…

Rudy Giuliani insists he’ll win Florida, while hinting he’ll drop out of the race if he doesn’t.

Gotta love a man who’s unambiguous. [/snark]

Giuliani: A Real Bastard

      Buck     January 28th, 2008 - 5:35 pm

This man has no business being in government.

Rudolph W. Giuliani likens himself to a boxer who never takes a punch without swinging back. As mayor, he made the vengeful roundhouse an instrument of government, clipping anyone who crossed him.

In August 1997, James Schillaci, a rough-hewn chauffeur from the Bronx, dialed Mayor Giuliani’s radio program on WABC-AM to complain about a red-light sting run by the police near the Bronx Zoo. When the call yielded no results, Mr. Schillaci turned to The Daily News, which then ran a photo of the red light and this front page headline: “GOTCHA!”

That morning, police officers appeared on Mr. Schillaci’s doorstep. What are you going to do, Mr. Schillaci asked, arrest me? He was joking, but the officers were not.

It gets better…

Why Do They Lie?

      Buck     January 22nd, 2008 - 7:03 pm

I can see Wolf Blitzer lying. Lord knows he strays from the facts often enough! But Jack Cafferty? Now that’s a let-down! I don’t really follow John King enough to know where he stands. But the following is telling.

Per MediaMatters:

[kml_flashembed movie="http://blueherald.com/BH_player.swf" height="274" width="320" fvars="sr_url=uploads/flash/Giuliani_florida.flv" /]

CNN’s John King, Wolf Blitzer, and Jack Cafferty all mischaracterized Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign strategy in the early states, repeating the media myth that he chose not to compete in Iowa and New Hampshire. In fact, Giuliani himself has denied that his strategy was to skip the early states, telling NBC’s Matt Lauer, “We’ve actually spent the most time in New Hampshire and then Florida is right behind that.”

Hedging His Bets

      Buck     January 14th, 2008 - 10:55 am

Rudy’s also turning to the power of Florida area wishing wells in his bid for the presidency. It’s just loose pocket change, (which is about all that Rudy has left anyways). And really, what could it hurt?

Giuliani Turns to Prayer in Florida

Giuliani in FloridaMIAMI (AP) — With his plan for winning the GOP presidential nomination riding largely on a Florida victory at the end of the month, Rudy Giuliani asked an evangelical congregation for prayers instead of votes Sunday and quoted scripture to evoke a message of hope and perseverance.

“I’m not coming here to ask for your vote,” he said. “That’s up to you and it’s not the right place. But I am coming here to ask you for something very special and more important: I’m asking for your prayers.”

“Three Kings parade-goers along the two-mile route both cheered and booed the former mayor.”

Pray harder, Rudy!

Mr. 9/11

      QuestionGirl     January 4th, 2008 - 4:38 pm

You can guess who said this…….in regard to his ending up in the dumper in Iowa last night. He just can’t seem to get a sentence out without adding 9/11 somewhere in it. What a jerk.

“None of this worries me - Sept. 11, there were times I was worried,”

Invoking 9/11

      Buck     December 27th, 2007 - 4:38 pm

When all else fails, fall back on what you know works.

“During the day of September 11, living through the things that I saw and observed. Immediately, when I saw people helping each other. I saw the picture of the firefighters putting the flag up at ground zero. I said these are the children or grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the greatest generation. They have the same resolve. The same understanding.” -Rudy Giuliani
