Your heart has to go out to these poor animals.

Hard times force owners to ditch pets
PASADENA (KABC) — Economic hardships are forcing pet owners to turn their animals over to shelters.
When owners lose their homes so do their pets. During these tough economic times more pets are being abandoned or dropped off at animal shelters.
The Pasadena Humane Society, like others, have seen an increase in dog and cat owners come in with their pet asking if they’ll will take them in.
“These people are sobbing and these are people who don’t feel that they have any recourse. It is tragic for the family and that includes the pet,” said Ricky Whitman from the Pasadena Humane Society.
Only the dumbest of the dumb would vote for this idiot. Does he even realize what an idiot he sounds like? First he says Obama is bad because he hasn’t been to Iraq or Afghanistan, and he should go. Then when Obama travels overseas, he says that is bad. First he says Obama is completely wrong on Iraq. Then he says 16 months sounds like a good idea. He is the biggest friggin flip floppin whine baby. For the love of God, somebody shove a tablespoon of oatmeal in his mouth and shut him up.

Riffing off the slide guitar earlier this week, here’s a double dose of Sonny Landreth, “Uberesso” and “Native Stepson,” live from the Crossroads Guitar Festival in 2007. Landreth’s got a wild, very impressive technique.

This could explain bush’s over all view of his tenure as president. Maybe it explains this country’s reason for waking up one day and having this ivy league mafia running America. We got drunk and ended up in bed with a whore. Hey it happens but most of the time the whore doesn’t hang around for eight years. bushco, the money, all that is left of it, is on the dresser, get the hell out.
The Young Turks Cenk’s take on Bush’s Wall Street got drunk remarks:
My senator, Nelson-Fl. voted against it. I called his office several times over the past few weeks. They made no sense at all. They said he was going to vote for the FISA bill, but that he would do everything he could to protect our civil liberties. Hellooo……. you are making no sense. It’s so hard to remain polite when talking to these morons. Why would anyone vote against stripping immunity out of this bill? Why? Because they are bought and fucking paid for. That’s why. There can be no other reason. Roll call here

I’ve posted this link before, but here it is again. They post daily activities in the Senate and senate committees.
The Senate Armed Services Committee voted Thursday to promote Gen. David Petraeus to become the top commander in the Middle East.
Senators on the panel also agreed by voice vote that Lt. Gen. Raymond Odierno should receive a fourth star and replace Petraeus as chief commander in Iraq.
The committee action paves the way for a favorable vote on the nominations by the Senate

Unemployment claims up 25,000 this week. (that’s NEW claims)
May foreclosures up 48%
Stimulus checks boost retail sales 0.8% in May. (no doubt used to buy food and necessities and what happens when that stimulus check is gone?)
Inflation up 0.6% in May
Crude oil for July delivery fell as much as $1.96, or 1.4 percent, to $134.78 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It traded at $135.40 a barrel at 12:55 p.m. London time. Futures reached a record $139.12 a barrel on June 6. And they call this the GOOD news.
Pssssttt, somebody tell McCain what’s goin on!
I’ve been noticing something for quite some time now, but just now, today, was able to put my finger on it.
Does anyone else see the similarities between Rachel Maddow and Wil Wheaton?

To me, they could pass for brother and sister. But, it could be just me…

The Christian Science Monitor notes that democracy is thriving sans U.S. aid or benefit. Obviously these are areas in which the Bush administration haven’t stuck their noses in too deeply.
Consider these developments:
•Fierce fighting that threatened to engulf Lebanon in a new civil war last month was quelled when factions reached a political accord with the help of Qatar - though with the US nowhere in sight.
•Israel and Syria have begun talks aimed at reaching a peace treaty - with Turkey as the go-between.
•Brazil, looking for partners with which to expand its diplomatic reach, suddenly finds China eclipsing the US - particularly in food trade.
Perhaps, come January, democracy will once again thrive here in the good ol’ US of A..

To continue our discussion of dangerous, hawkish foreign policy with little regard for the consequences, such attitudes are not limited to conservatives by any stretch. George Packer, who initially supported the invasion of Iraq but also wrote the excellent book The Assassin’s Gate, is now urging us to use military force to achieve regime change in Myanmar/Burma. While humanitarian urges are good, Packer’s stance is surprisingly reckless even given his caveats. “War” and “humanitarianism” also don’t mix particularly well (although I realize that’s a shocking notion to many hawks).
