First, from “moderate” blog Obsidian Wings, here’s Eric Martin:
You know you’re setting a new standard for shameless dishonesty when even Fox News and Karl Rove call you out. Karl Freakin Rove! The man who took the baton from Lee Atwater and [deleted] it up a rat’s [deleted]. I apologize for the vulgar imagery, but John McCain refused to do a series of town hall appearances with me, so I had no choice.

When Wingnuts Tremble
The Palin circus has drowned out almost everything else, but you may have seen that the Obama campaign has pushed the Department of Justice to investigate the group behind the Ayers ads for possible violation of FEC guidelines. Meanwhile, The Politco reported late last week:

Cone of silence……. too funny.
Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) campaign manager Rick Davis asked Sunday for a meeting with Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, to protest what the campaign called signs that the network is “abandoning non-partisan coverage of the presidential race.”
Davis made the request Sunday in a letter that is part of an aggressive effort by McCain to counter news coverage he considers critical.
In this case, the campaign is objecting to a statement by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on “Meet the Press” questioning whether McCain might have gotten a heads-up on some of the questions that were asked of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who was the first candidate to be interviewed Saturday night by Pastor Rick Warren at a presidential forum on faith.
Warren told the audience that McCain was being held in “a cone of silence” so he wouldn’t hear the questions, which were similar for both candidates.
Warren referred again to “the cone of silence” when McCain came onstage, and the senator joked: “I was trying to hear through the wall.”
Mitchell reported that some “Obama people” were suggesting “that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well prepared.”

Geez. If Obama gets her so emotional, imagine what shape she’d be in if she’s nominated and comes face to face with a lying, back’stabbing, swiftboating, rat-bastard republican challenger!
Emotional Clinton Says, This Is Personal
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton’s eyes welled up and her voice broke repeatedly Monday as she talked with voters in a restaurant about her campaign for the presidency.
The former first lady was making a last-minute pitch for support as she spoke on the eve of the state’s primary, with polls showing her trailing Democratic rival Barack Obama.
[...]
“So,” she continued, then paused, seemingly to control her voice as her listeners applauded again. “You know, this is very personal for me. It’s not just political. It’s not just public. I see what’s happening, and we have to reverse it. And some people think elections are a game. They think it’s like who’s up or who’s down.

Since we were just discussing Holocaust denial, and I (predictably) mentioned Pastor Martin Niemöller’s famous poem “First they came…” in the comments thread, this post by Bernard Chazelle at A Tiny Revolution is perfectly timed:

Seems the elder Bush gets a little upset when people jump chimp-boy’s case.
Do they want to bring back Saddam Hussein, these critics? Do they want to go back to the status quo ante? … Do they think life would be better in the Middle East if Saddam were still there?
-Pres. George H.W. Bush, lashing out at criticism of son’s handling of the Iraq war
Let me answer that one… Yes, things WOULD BE BETTER, not only in the middle east, but everywhere, if Saddam had been left alone! I’ll go one better. Life would be damn near spectacular for virtually everyone if your son, Chimperz, had decided to become a career cheerleader. Hey, he was good at it!

[My] administration needs the tools authorized by the bill to fight terrorists. The Protect America Act is a vital tool in stopping the terrorists and it would be a grave mistake for Congress to weaken this tool.
-President Bush, on upcoming surveillance bill
Write one that makes sense. Write one that doesn’t allow big telecommunications companies to ride roughshod over us. Wrap it all up in pretty paper with a gold ribbon on top, then shove it down the bastard’s throat!
Bush: Surveillance bill must not hamper fight against terrorism
President Bush says a new foreign surveillance bill must give flexibility to intelligence professions.
WASHINGTON (CNN) – President Bush said Wednesday he will not sign a government surveillance bill unless it provides the tools and flexibility intelligence professions need to protect the America against terrorism.
The bill, the president said, must “keep the intelligence gap firmly closed and ensure that protections intended for the American people are not extended to terrorists overseas who are plotting to harm us.”
Retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with electronic surveillance, must also be part of the bill, Bush said.
He said the companies “are facing multibillion-dollar lawsuits only because they are believed to have assisted in the efforts to defend our nation following the 9/11 attacks.”
Bush wants to strengthen the Protect America Act, a temporary measure passed in August and set to expire in February. Democrats want to roll back some of the powers granted in that bill.

Gee….. poor diplomats! If that’s how they feel, imagine how our troops feel who are there for 15 months and come home only to have to go back for another 15 month tour, and another…..and another. Yah….. I feel real sorry for Thomas Wise.
Thomas Wise speaking at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs
Minneapolis, Minnesota about his time working on the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) program in Iraq earlier this year. It seems a year is all the diplomats spend there since the work is so “stressful”. Well how about the stress on our troops?
H/T Youtuber Heathr234 for great videos and commentary!
