After questioning that touched on religious beliefs, celebrity and the public’s perception of preachers and televangelists, a jury was seated Wednesday in a civil lawsuit alleging the wife of nationally known pastor Joel Osteen assaulted a flight attendant.

A jury panel of seven men and five women was set to hear opening statements in the trial on Thursday.

In the lawsuit, Continental Airlines flight attendant Sharon Brown accuses Victoria Osteen of assaulting her before the start of a 2005 flight from Houston to Vail, Colo. Brown alleges Victoria Osteen, co-pastor of Houston’s popular Lakewood Church, threw her against a bathroom door and elbowed her in the left breast during an angry outburst over a stain on her first-class seat.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City.

She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

The advisers said Clinton has made a strategic decision to not formally end her campaign, giving her leverage to negotiate with Obama on various matters including a possible vice presidential nomination for her. She also wants to press him on issues he should focus on in the fall, such as health care.

Yesterday Chris Matthews had Ann Coulter on Hardball. During the show, she stated she wished John Edwards would be killed in a terrorist attack. This isn’t that unusual, as we all know she’s a psychobitch who deserves no airtime. But Matthews response was…….”How should I read that?” HUH???? How should you read that? A judge in Los Angeles has ordered Paris Hilton to return to jail to finish the remainder of her sentence, according to media reports.

Hilton was said to be screaming as she was taken from the courtroom.

The judge said Hilton must now serve the complete 45 day sentence.

His decision came after prosecutors issued a statement and filed motions in opposition to the sheriff’s decision to “reassign” Hilton to home confinement in violation of a court order.

NEW YORK Last week, at least seven daily newspapers around the country announced that they had decide to drop Ann Coulter’s column in the wake of her latest offensive comment, a reference to former Sen. John Edwards in which she used the term “faggot.” An eighth paper has now cut the column: The Herald and Review in Decatur, Ill.

Another paper, The State Journal Register in Springfield, Ill., is weighing that move and is asking readers to weigh in — and has been swamped with pro and con responses.

Coulter’s syndicate, Universal, has said it has no plans to drop her.

One of the first to announce its move was the Mountain Press in Sevierville, Tenn. In a column today, its editor, Stan Voit, explains, “I’ve been a newspaperman for most of the last 35 years. But I admit I have never encountered anything like the reaction to this paper dropping Ann Coulter’s column. You’d have thought we came out against Christmas or SEC football.”

In all, the piece announcing the paper’s decision drew over 250 comments, with most of them coming from outside the area. The first posted comment on Voit’s piece today, however, was positive.

From the start I began hearing it from Democrats and Republicans who object to her style and tone. I defended her and our decision to carry her column in the face of a lot of heat generated by those in both parties locally who didn’t want her column in their hometown paper.

As I read her column each week to get it formatted for publication, I became more and more bothered by her incendiary one-liners, the lack of depth in her commentary. Her column seemed more about getting cheap laughs than offering analysis. And it was mean’spirited, not insightful. In short, I was becoming troubled about her column. I also knew about her history of nasty one-liners directed at World Trade Center widows, Muslims and even the city of Boston.

When she used the term “faggot” in making a joke about John Edwards, that was the proverbial last straw for me. I made the decision to cancel her column. My boss and publisher, Jana Thomasson, agreed….

On the March 6 edition of Fox News Live, while discussing Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-NY) March 4 speech and her participation in a commemorative civil rights march in Selma, Alabama, host E.D. Hill accused Clinton of affecting a “Southern drawl” during her speech and asked pollster Scott Rasmussen: “[W]ould it happen elsewhere, if she was attending, say, a GLAAD [Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation] convention, would she speak with a lisp?” Hill continued: “If she were attending a Hispanic convention, would she speak with a Spanish accent? Or if she were attending an African-American convention, would she start throwing out phrases — you know ‘Homies, here I am’?”

Hill also mocked a portion of Clinton’s speech, in which Clinton quoted Rev. James Cleveland’s hymn, “I don’t feel noways tired.” After airing that excerpt of Clinton’s speech, Hill stated: “Well, I don’t feel noways tired, neither” and asserted that “it did seem sort of strange to hear a Yankee affecting a Southern drawl.” Hill did not mention that Clinton was quoting a hymn.

Alaska Representative Don Young (of Bridge to Nowhere and Don Young’s Way fame) just effectively called for the execution of any representative who votes for the Iraq War Resolution tomorrow in a speech on the floor of the house today during the marathon debate on the resolution.

Here’s what he said:

Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged.

He attributed this quote to Abraham Lincoln, without providing any reference to where he got this quote or when and where Lincoln supposedly said it.

There’s a problem with this quote, though (among several): Lincoln never said it, or anything remotely close to it!!! Think about it! A Republican representative just lied on the floor of the house and called for his opponents’ execution!

WHEATON, Illinois (AP) — Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s daughter was arrested this week and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and child endangerment, officials said Wednesday.

Ann S. Banaszewski, 45, of Wheaton, was arrested Monday evening while driving away from a fast-food restaurant in the suburb 20 miles west of Chicago, police said.

Three children were inside Banaszewski’s van when someone called police to report a suspected intoxicated driver, said Deputy Chief Tom Meloni.

Meloni would not release Banaszewski’s blood-alcohol level. He also declined to give the children’s ages or say whether Banaszewski had a previous record.

She was released on a personal recognizance bond. The DuPage County Circuit Court had no information Wednesday about a whether a court appearance had been scheduled.

Responding to recent calls for his ouster as a contributor to ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” by several Arab activist groups for what they termed “blatant anti-Arab and anti-Muslim bias,” Premiere Radio Networks talk host and CNN Headline News Prime personality Glenn Beck fired back at his accusers, saying, “I want to make it very clear, I don’t hate Muslims. In fact, I don’t know anybody who hates Muslims — and I know a lot of conservatives.”

After airing several video clips from previous editions of his nightly CNN program that clearly supported the talk host’s claim of fairness, Beck told viewers he’s been consistent and anything but biased on both his radio and television shows.

“I offer you a challenge,” said Beck to his critics. “When you see the big rally happening, with the Muslims marching in the streets saying, ‘They’re hijacking my religion,’ you call me. I’ll give you my private phone number. We will set up satellite trucks to cover it.”
